Looks to me like the big black cat is the only one involved in this accident. I see nothing identifying FedEx as being involved. Did I miss something in the news report?

Now that is a bad day!

That is why they call it "SUGGESTED" routing, and not the ACTUAL.

I wonder why FEDEX was pulling a PII trailer?

That was a Panther Driver Jim. I bet he will get his lease pulled for this. Not very smart to talk to the news. Then put the blame on the company saying "that is the way the company sent me". That was a bad reason to not read the road signs. The Smith System would of helped the driver in this case. I don't feel in any way that this is Panthers fault. I'm sure those where the locals they got from the customer.

Oh well guy had a bad day. Just driving along following his QC directions and wham. You know how it is just driving and thinking of something else. Im sure no one on Eo has ever done anything dumb. The guy was just unlucky for it to happen in NY city with heavy traffic and get news coverage.

Seems to me, if the bridge was low enough to peel back the trailer, he'd have been looking at the thing center of the windshield, as he approached. Feel bad for the guy, but sheeesh, if he didn't see the bridge, what else doesn't he see?

I was rear ended in NYC because I paused at a "low clearance" and it was in fact tall enough.

There are many places in the city that will make you sweat bullets as you are driving them, several times we have driven 10-20 blocks under the elevated train tracks marked at 12' 9" not a comfortable feeling.

A driver who lives in the city gave me some good advice once.If the clearance sign is in yellow, you have at least 6" more clearance than the sign says.If the sign is white, that is the true clearance.

And if there is snow accumulation on the road then all bets are off.

At least twice we were scared off of the I-278 and onto Atlantic Ave (not a good road) because of the 12' 9" clearance signs, only to find out later that there is clearance there even for the 13' 6" t/t.DD.

HHMMM been looking in my mapbook and I cant find that place anywhere...what page can I find it on..or do I need a special map?

Does suck to be the driver (or owner for that matter)...we got a fleet message not to long ago advising whoever hits a low clearance bridge..no matter the excuse...their lease in terminated

I have never topped a trailer. I did get one all tangled up with pine garland While passing under the main gate of a Catholic women's college. It was after Christmas and the custodian told me to go ahead and tear it down. Saved him from climbing a ladder and taking it down.

I once had a large stainless steel dewer full of liquid helium break loose in a trailer, tip over and leak. This resulted in the closing of a 2 block stretch of 2nd avenue in Minneapolis, a main entrance to I-35W for about 4 hours. Very embarrassing! One of the local TV news crews was there filming. That was my 15 minutes of Warhol Fame. Since embracing the mundane, I lead a low key life.
