Agree or disagree with EO's OOIDA members' comments, those who wish to either establish or renew a membership, may do so, either at MATS in Louisville at the end of March or at the Expedite Expo in Wilmington, OH at the end of July. OOIDA's show price is $25 for new or renewal.

AARP has caused problems with any legislation being passed for more strict criteria in license renewal for the elderly. Think about that the next time a blue hair that can barely see over the steering wheel pulls out in front of you.

HS: I couldn't agree more. My 92 yr old mother just sold her duck-taped and dented Buick after a cop showed up at her house holding her license plate. Her reaction, Oh!, I thought I brushed something. No harm, no legal action, but the real criminal act was her ability to set her two canes aside and, at the age of 90, renew her Massachusetts drivers license over the internet for a period of 5 years. Thanks AARP.

I enjoy receiving Land Line magazine as a member benefit but that is not why I support OOIDA. As far as I know, OOIDA is the only effective Independent Owner/Operator organization that has a meaningful presence in Washington DC. The OOIDA lobbyist who writes in Land Line knows his stuff and tells it like it is.

I'm also positively impressed by the help OOIDA gives to individual drivers who go to OOIDA with disputes the drivers have with their carriers or truck owners.

It's not for me that I support OOIDA. It's for my fellow truckers who have and will in the future benefit from OOIDA's good work.

That said, I've been embarrassed more than once by some of the actions OOIDA has taken in the name of its members. Nevertheless, OOIDA does more good than harm and I'm pleased to add my name to OOIDA's rolls and contribute additional funds to the OOIDA PAC.
