OOIDA membership vs ?

I thought I would start another post as the one I started on the union has went on and has died a dozen times over.

However, during that post it was mentioned several times for all of us that seek change in this industry or who seek some form of represenation to join the OOIDA.

As of 2pm today, I joined and am just awaiting them to process my application and payment, and forward me my membership number and all my other information.

I strongly believe that while the OOIDA lacks numbers to really push for change, if we all do our part, get others to join as well, this association can build its' own membership base to become a driving force in this industry.

I do not, as many of you can expect, plan on being JUST a member. I plan on getting actively involved with the OOIDA and do what ever I can do to assist in the growth of this association and the force it should be to bring change and development within this industry.

I hope those of you who want change, believe we need a change, and those of you who seek a voice in this industry, will step up with me and join the OOIDA.

chuckster,

Glad to see that you signed up with OOIDA! The Association is THE voice of the independents and your joining has increased the volume level of OUR voice in the ear of the policy makers!!

I had been meaning to join for several months and just did a few days ago. I agree that they are the independents voice in this industry.

I have talked two other drivers into joining and am still talking to two others to join (Larry come on).

No matter what field of work one makes his living from one should be a member that encourages growth for the better of the industry.

Ours is OOIDA, glad to be a member.

Not to knock OOIDA,I've been a member for years, and as many others, believed in them, until the new HOS,this 14 hour rule for teams, with 8 hrs off to stop the clock, doesn't even say you have to sleep the 8 hrs,you could be playing video games, but as a team in the expedite business, the new HOS rule, really is out of line, and I just don't see what or how OOIDA let this happen,if we have so much clout in congress.
Just my $0.02

You just answered your own question, not enough people belong or participate. Ones gotta start somewhere and the forces on the otherside made their voices louder than ours.

As long as our government knows that most truck drivers don't vote, then there will be nothing we can do to make our industry better.
We actually aren't any better now than we were in the 70's,in fact our last strike,in 1981,what we get? 48' trailers,80000 lbs that pays the same as the old 73280 did,and now this has turned into unlimited length on designated highways,53'trailers,a higher speed limit so we can go farther everyday,oh yes and spend more for for road taxes,as with the speeds your fuel mileage is less, man I can go on and on,and yes I realize,OOIDA needs more members,i'm just not sure that will help

OOIDA didn't let the terrible HOS happen. They fought it and are still fighting it. The problem is they don't have enough members to just speak and automatically be heard. Don't let this get you down on OOIDA. They are the only organization truly interested in what happens to us and truly working for our best interest.

While the OOIDA lacks membership numbers those of us who are members need to become more active within the association.

While I just joined, honestly, I am not just going to sit around and say whoopie-do-da-day I am a member, I plan on being active, somehow becoming a voice and getting more of our fellow drivers to join.

This is not a quick fix, something that we can get to change overnight, but if we all take it from here and begin to build the steam we can build the OOIDA into something that WILL be heard.

I am not saying the OOIDA WILL BE our answer - but I am ##### sure going to give it my best effort to give it a chance.

(OOIDA) Can anybody give me the information so we can join them.

I have heard they have Insurance Companys who offer insurance discounts through them, such as Occupational Insurance.

We are new with FedEx and they charge a % of the gross amount the truck makes each week to pay for the Occ Insurance. We had a $3,800 week and it cost us almost $78.00 for a team, compared to $39.00 flat rate per week we were paying before with our last Company per week.

On a good week that could add-up to $200 or more that sounds like a lot of money to pay out to me.

Does anybody else have a better plan they can share with us?

Thanks

Wow, I am overwhelmed by your positive thinking!x(

There is NO EXCUSE for not voting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's too easy to get in touch with your local election board and have them send out an absentee ballot.

Their insurance is on the high side. All their other benefits are well worth the membership tho.

If you want to join for the 'what is in it for me' or for anyother reason visit the website at www.ooida.com and take a look around.

I believe they offer some pretty good discounts on things of interest.

However, if you join, it would add to our membership base which would allow US to become more of a voice in DC and on the state level for YOU.

Someone said the same ole stuff is getting posted here - well, that is just another reason for everyone to join - where we can begin to discuss the real issues facing this industry and taking steps to correct the problems, rather than just spinning our wheels.

GET OFF YOUR TAIL - STOP TAKING THE SAME DEAD HORSE PATH - DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE THINGS FOR THOSE THAT FOLLOW US - JOIN OOIDA!

Why dont you go bury yourhead in the sand, I hate Poeple like you.
You have no idea at all about my situation or what I'm looking for.
Ive been wanting to join OOIDA for some time now,and guess what I know all about them and what they do for truckers. I was just asking about one of their many discounts they offer and their web-site so I could look into joining them, (Is that all right with you now)

Joining is easy. You can do it online or call their toll free number. When you do join be sure you have the name and member number of a current member. You will get a $20 discount by using that as a referral. Mine is below and there are others on the board who would let you use theirs I'm sure.
