OOIDA ? about ports

SO I called today and asked why they have not tried fighting for the rights of truckers going to the ports with a 2006 or older truck. The answer is we can't since it is a EPA law. Ok so if any trucks entering the port must be 2006 or newer and carb compliant. Now are the ports going to force cv / sprinters or cubes to be 2006 or newer as well ?

This has a good and bad side I don't do the ports often because of all the headaches involved with port pickup and deliveries. But this may make port freight go up in rate since you must have a newer or carb modified truck. and also this will also clean out allot of the non english speaking cheap port haulers also.

But my complaint is why I should have to spend $5000 or more to prep my truck to get cargo.

Well goes to show global warming is fixed with the warmest winter in history so far that I can remember.

BTW have any of you been behind a truck when that regen of emissions starts OMG that is a eye burning nasty smell and terrible. And I am saying that stuff is not good for the atmosphere.

Ok my rant is over LOL

Has nothing to do with clean air. It is all about the money.
Follow that and you will find the true intent.
It is about enhancing government revenue streams and eliminating competition for the larger carriers. It is by no accident that the ATA supports it.

I agree Dave. That's what I said to the guy at OOIDA so it is a law to let the large carriers monopolize the ports. Well when the Mexico mega super port opens let's see how good this law works ! At some point and time the new Mexico port will open and wow what a slap to our ports that will be.

BTW semi truck freight leaving el paso and laredo is allot lower rate wise and quantity of loads wise. I have been running pipe non stop to elpaso tx area and the back hauls are crap I can't complain since my load down is paying very good but still it;s nice to get paid both directions.

Couple weeks ago on the internet truckstop load board for el paso there were only about 100 flatbed loads and only about 50 step deck loads and the rates were terrible. I ended up grabbing a laod of pumps from elpaso to midland tx for $1000 and then dh all the way to peoria, il but heck $5000 profit for a rt od 2750 miles is not bad and I am happy so thats all that counts. And yes thats after fuel, tolls , and 1 flat I had on trailer LOL "got lucky flat was at the el paso petro.

Its not an EPA law, the EPA does not have laws that we follow, they have regulations.

I heard this excuse about another issue, which turns out a winnable thing.

one its a CARB rule not a law and yes you can fight the CARB or the EPA in court on any rule they make. Therefore, Don't know who you talked to, but that person was not a informed person at OOIDA.

I hate to bust your bubble about the ATA and the port program, because ATA has been in court since 2008 on the program. Look it up and you will find out that it's true.

I would like to finish on the EPA rule for 2014 and newer vehicles, nowhere does it say older vehicles. Therefore, trucker who is complaining wont be affected at all neither will any other trucker who doesn't buy a 2014 truck.
