One of my worst fears

I remember part of a thread on this very thing not to long ago. Basically I was worried about an original not getting to the office in the US Mail after I'd had paperwork signed & faxed in.

I do have copies, but they didn't get the original. So now I'm sitting here after making a delivery that was on time & signed a couple of weeks ago wondering if I'm gonna get paid.

When I say wondering, 70% of me thinks I'll get paid. So it's not at a crucial point yet. Still, something in me thinks that if a delivery is made & signed for, the driver should be able to know 100% he/she will be paid & can mentally account for the money rather than wondering if you're gonna have to jump thru hoops to get it.

I wouldn't worry too much. See if you get paid. If not, contact the place you delivered and see if they paid the bill. And of course, get all necessary information along with NAMES.
If they paid it is easily proven, then you should get paid, or you will find you are working for a bunch of thieves that got their money and are lying to you.

I don't know of any paying parties in expediting who will only pay from an original, anymore. Because of the legality of facsimile and scanning, there is no reason to require an original, as a facsimile or a scan becomes a 100% replacement for the original. That's why contracts and other documents can be faxed and signed and then faxed back. Carriers who demand originals are largely stuck in the "that's the way it's always been done" mentality. That, or they know it's a loophole that allows them to not pay a driver.

Or, they're just stupid, like the ones that tell you Qualcomm charges by the character, so keep your QC messages short.

I don't think they're looking to scam me. Their track record for pay is good. No one's ever not sent em an original though as far as I'm aware of. Sorry if it came out like that. I def. think Turtle hit on something w/ em thinking that's the way it's always been. IMO she truly thinks the originals are needed.

I wrote it thinking along the lines of how ironic it was that one of my fears came thru, & relatively quickly after I'd posted about it. If ya believe in karma & such maybe I willed it to happen.

They'll try & get the $$. I'm figuring they'll succeed. Or I hope they will anyway. If they do they'll prolly be thinking what a great favor they did for me. And truly think it, not in an arrogant way.

My take is more that I, or any driver really, shouldn't have to even think about it once it's delivered. The delivery was about 2 weeks ago. I should just know for a fact that I'm gonna get paid w/out any hassles.

There are still some folks in the freight world that demand originals unfortunately. LEA finally went to full permission for scanning not too long ago. Landstar Logistics always allowed scans or fax. Landstar Carrier Group (Ranger, Inway, etc.) allows scans, but only by third-party services such as Transflo or TripPak scan. Probably done to insure that the BOL has not been "Photoshopped".

There are some companies, such as Stevens Global Logistics, that want the POD faxed back by the next morning, but still demand the original be sent when invoicing them.

Leave it to the kernel to make another one of his sissy douche comments. Fact is they told me I'd need the original to get paid.

Then I guess, you don't have to wonder and worry, anylonger. IF, that is actually the case, you can't have too much invested running a cargo van. Seems strange to me, but, "stuff" happens.

So they have the faxed copy and the original is lost in the mail or lost in their office. With it being beyond your control it is unreasonable to not pay you. Which company has so little respect for their contracters to do a thing like this. You should let everyone know.

No....that company has NOT refused payment so no harm is done..yet...This may not even be an issue...

Danny, I would have guessed your worst fear to be in a high-stakes online poker game. You are holding a royal flush. Everyone is bidding up the pot and your computer crashes just as your turn comes to raise.

The fact that you live in Michigan gives you some real and imminent things to fret about. Much more serious than a lost original B.O.L. What your carrier calls an original, is in fact a copy. The shipper retains the original shipping order.

My second greatest fear is developing RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) just before a 1400 mile load and my cruise control goes south early in the journey.

My greatest fear is contracting claustraphobia from a truck stop toilet seat or shower. Being in a van, claustrophobia would be a real career killer.

Did I ever mention how I overcame acrophobia by driving a Ford CL-9000 for 2 years?

If it wasn't for the being in service thingy, vast quantities of beer will either make you forget the problem... or cures it, not sure which.

Oh 'fer christ sakes. Here's the kernel & another one of his yappy poodle off of grandma's porch comments. Basically sums up his attitude that comes off as expecting more out of others than he'll put out himself.

OVM, correct in that it's not an issue yet. I do think eventually I'll get paid. I guess the point was more that ya'd think once ya've made the delivery it should just be a given. Delivery was in late Jan. I'll start gettin worried mid March or so.

Moot, Uncanny ya'd bring that up. I know ya meant it as a joke but you're actuallly not to far off. Similar stuff has happened. I play tourneys more than ring games. The worst was getting disconnected when I was in the final 3. I may not have won anyways, but it would have been nice to find out rather than signing back on awhile later to find that yup, I'd taken 3rd. On the flip side I've won a couple where my opponent got disconnected. Sometimes it pays to be at the final table vs. someone from a 3rd world country w/ bad internet connections. :D

That cruise control problem can be solved w/ a good bungee cord. If ones not available you can always buy an accelerator from your local Toyota dealer.

Oh, & did you know I overcame driving a Ford CL-9000 by developing acrophobia for 2 years?

A split second before you strike the nail with the hammer, you think to yourself, "Man, I hope I don't hammer my finger."
