I agree, but not because of our young children's psyche, but for the bystander's and mostly for the parent's and their private and mid-sections. Do you ever watch America's Funniest Home Video's?

Putting aside the fact that the author of the piece has little or no confidence that children can tell the difference between hitting someone else and hitting paper mache piñatas, learning to hit things with a stick is very important.
