Week before last while my wife and I were staying at the TA in New Braunfels,TX for the son's graduation at Lackland AFB something unusual went on at the TA.

As we sat eating an early dinner in the restuarant, two females (or so we thought) came in and sat at the counter directly across from our table. The taller one was clad in a dress with panty hose and heels and a wide choker collar around here neck. Her hair was long and reddish blonde. Her partner was dressed in all black with black hair and black lipstick. She was definately Goth! It only took a few minutes for all of us to figure out that the reddish blonde one was really a man! Appearantly a cross dresser. This was confirmed when his phone rang and she/he answered in a male voice. O M G! I think the choker was to hide the adams apple. LOL

Well we learned that they were team drivers that ended up staying for a couple of days. I also learned from an employee that the reddish blonde one had been using both the mens and womens restrooms. O M G!

This immediately put visions in my brain of standing at the urinal and him bellying up the the urinal next to me only to hike up his dress and, well you know. O M G! Take it to the stall, I can't bear to watch. Thank god I snapped out of that vision quickly! LOL Worse, what about when my wife (or yours) is in the ladies room and she/he decides to use the ladies room this trip. Guys, let you or I walk into the ladies room to relieve ourselves and we're surely going to jail. But its alright for it to do so?

OK men, your wife is in the ladies room and you see she/he walk in or you experience my vision for real, WHAT YA GONNA DO?

I really think the reddish blonde one was hoping the big ol boy trucker sitting next to her was gonna buy her a cup of coffee.

Oh, I dunno. Many places around the world, and more and more here, have unisex restrooms where people of both sexes are in the same restroom at the same time. More than once I've seen a woman enter the men's room because the line is too long to get into the women's restroom, and when ya gotta go ya gotta go so whattya gonna do? No one freaked out over it.

Personally, I think that if you're gonna dress up like a woman, and you're not one, knowing the yahoos we got out here in this business, you're pretty much brain-dead stupid for hanging out at a truck stop in the first place. But, knowing men the way I do, and knowing women the way I do, I gotta figure a he/she is less threatening to women in the women's room (they aren't likely to hit on any of the women in there, or try anything frisky), and therefor a lot safer, than they would be in the men's room, 'cause any number of things can happen in a men's room, almost all of them bad.

Yeah, in most places in the world there are unisex restrooms, and it's probably due to the Puritans that they are segregated here like the are. But that's changing for many reasons. One is the fact that women take longer to go to the restroom, due to the simply biology, as it takes longer to sit than it does to stand for a few seconds at a urinal. Then you have the fact that you can fit 2 or 3 urinals into the same space as you can a stall, so men have more fixtures available in the same space. Many women's restroom have more space dedicated to mirrors and couches and other amenities, which further reduces the available space. So even a facility, like a ballpark, that has the same number of restrooms for each, are likely to have far more fixtures for men than for women.

Enter Potty Parity where things are not so equal (I'm not making this up). Many states have laws where there must be a 2:1 or a 3:2 women's to men's restroom, because women take longer and thus more fixtures are needed. Now you're getting into some serious money for all the potty real estate that is needed.

Many locations are getting around the need for all that restroom real estate by going the unisex way. The 2003 International Building Code, a building code that most states have adopted, require most new facilities, or those with major upgrades, to have "family restrooms", where they are, in effect, unisex restrooms. This was due to concerns about sending you son or daughter into a restroom that you cannot go into, or for people with disabilities who are with a caretaker or spouse of the opposite sex.

There are still, of course, many building codes that require segregated restrooms, even in small facilities such as stores and restaurants. This sometimes creates the need for two self-contained, single-fixture restrooms, with different signs. And, often, there’s a wait for the women’s restroom, even when the men’s room is empty. The move is on to take that "family restroom" concept and to straight to unisex restrooms, especially at smaller locations. Most new malls, airports and other facilities now have at least several unisex restrooms, ostensibly for use as a "family restroom", but in effect providing great spillover relief for when the women's restrooms are lined up around the block.

I have come to the conclusion men cannot read Women on the walls. What irritates me about a man using the women’s bathroom is they cannot raise the seat and they have a problem flushing the toilet when finished.
It is rather funny though when you are washing your hands and they come out of the stall and it all the sudden dawns on them where they are! It embarrasses them a whole lot more than it does you.
We have also see men dressed as women at truck stops and really figure they have a death wish. A person dressed normally sometimes has to worry about walking back to your truck and then you have someone dressed like that? I feel sorrier for them then I do anything else.

I don't care as long as they are in the stall and not using the sink as a urinal.
It irritates the heck out of me to go into the TS and have "closed for cleaning" across the one and only women's bathroom because there is a man in there cleaning.

One day in South Korea I was at a bar using the restroom and while aiming at the rectangle hole cut into the floor. (Their version of a urinal) I got grabbed and when I turned to deck the guy I saw it was a woman phew. They have unisex restroom there because of the lack of public restrooms. Now that being said I can remember back in the day of running multiple log books there was a union76 truck stop in Charlotte. Well I was getting breakfast one morning after no sleep and had been driving for over 24 hrs I had to go and thought I read the sign right. Well when the woman said hey you’re in the ladies room at this point it was too late I was going. So I finished up as fast as possible and hurried back out I could hear her complaining and put my jacket on to make me look different since she only saw my back. I never did get caught but that woman wanted the truck stop to call the cops. The double standard no one would have complained if a woman had used the men’s room.

When I had my office supply business I was making deliveries in one of the high rises. The restrooms had the signs set back about 18" from the main hallway. As I approached I saw men so I grabbed the handle and opened the door and went in. As I walked through I found an awful lot of sinks bolted to the wall but nothing else. I kept walking and went out the door at the other end. Looking at the wall I saw that had I been approaching from this end instead of seeing men I'd have seen wom if I'd quit looking at exactly the same time. Nobody was in there or in the hall so I just kept going and about 1/4 mile farther down the hall found men with no "woah" on the front of it.
