Ohio Truck Speed To Increase

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It appears as though trucks will soon be able to travel at the same speed as cars through Ohio, after the Senate approved legislation that would create a single speed limit for all vehicles.

Currently, trucks are limited to 55 mph while cars can travel at 65 mph on Ohio interstates, with the exception of the Ohio Turnpike. Ohio is one of 11 states that currently has split speed limits.

The Ohio Trucking Association began lobbying for uniform speed limits for trucks and cars earlier this year.

Local media reports the increased speed limit for trucks will take effect in 90 days.

Thats good news for solo drivers...Ohio is about 210 miles on I-75...they'll pick up an extra approx. 1/2 hour less travel time....

Yeah I've heard a lot of trucks run better around the 62 mph range.....

Guess Ohio is finally going to get on the fuel tax band waggon.65 mph means they will get an extra 28cpm to run their state,figuring you will drop about 1 mpg for the extra 10 mph.Thats about $14.00 just for 1 truck to run from Michigan to Kentucky.Thats a lot of money a month when you figure how many trucks there are crossing the Ohio borders.

62 would be the low end for my truck no higher than 66-67, keeps the burner nice and hot. Ran at 65 across I-10 yesterday and was averaging 11.4 MPG, I-10 is about the only road flat enough to get that good of mileage I think,that or the A/C does suck about a mile a gallon,yea was in Texas without A/C headed to the freight liner after we drop this load.

Dont you think you might be creating a safety hazard by running 57 mph in states where the speed limit is 65 mph and most traffic is running in the 65 to 70 mph range? There has been studies done that show a 10 mph variance is the cause of accidents. Would it not be safer for you and others traveling around you if you were running the speed limit like everyone else?

No I do not consider it a road hazard. We are well above the minimum posted speed limit. We actually do pass others from time to time so no we will not follow the crowd.

When the load permits or DHing sometimes I'll do 60 in a 70...I am about 7-10 mph under most of the time....I'll keep the money in my pocket thanks....thats what a passing lane is for...I stay to the right....give the right of way...If I find I am in a crowd and it may be unsafe I'll adjust my speed accordingly so I am not being a nuisance or unsafe for others...

I run at around 57 mph also. Why would I run 70 and then wait at the delivery, or after delivery? The extra change in my pocket from the fuel savings adds up. Glad I am not the only one.

At the slower speeds,my tires last longer,I burn less fuel,less RPM's, fan belts last longer,and I can maintain a steady speed,not having to speed up and slow down for traffic,they do that for me.

So I can take it that all of you think that the studies that showed split speeds to be dangerous and unsafe are wrong and if they are right money is more important anyway.

Maybe thats why my Sprinter has run almost flawless other the wear parts for 392,000 miles?

Ive been running at the slower speeds for 3 years now.Ive been coast to coast ,border to border,no one has run me over yet,and I haven't run anyone over either.With the way the 4 wheeler population drive,its safer for the truck to go slower,especially those TAIL GATERS,they wont sit behind you.

We've discovered by tracking our fuel mileage that we get better fuel mileage at 62. 60 feels slow and 65 feels fast. We don't get run over, and we don't run up on others that way. Makes for a more relaxing ride.

We generally run 60 to 62. Our truck is speed limited to 65, though it seems to really gulp down the fuel at that speed.

If your running slower because you feel safer thats great but if your just running slower for mileage than you might think about changing your diff. ratio, it realy has nothing to do with speed it's all about RPM.
