Odd Dispatch

Hey merkurfan:

You mentioned the support rep falling from his chair. Other than chair falling, what does he do?

Thanks :+ :+

The rep? he is there to awnser our questions. And when it comes to what dispatch says. He tells me the truth. When I asked about loads in NE he said we see 5 a month. I doubt there was any sugar coating there. Dispatch said 3-4 a day. He's also corrected payroll problems (I had a pro that did not get credited correctly) helped me find a good area to move to when the empty move was something I didn't want to take (to far, bad area, what ever)

Had I called him when I first got stuck in MI where dispatch kept saying "you'll get a long run soon" he would have told me to "get the heck out of MI" and then given me a list of express areas that would do better for me. That is what he told me to do when I talked with him after I left MI on my own.

He also corrected the refusal I got in Chicago. They called me on my cell (I was out of the truck) told me about the load and I refused it based on what I was told. On the QC however it also said I would get first out. I would have taken it had I known that. So he reversed the refusal (BTW the message on the qc said "1ST OUT ON THE LONGEST LOAD ON THE PLANET WHEN DONE")

So far, I'd have to say that the contractor reps actually do look out for the driver when you talk with them. I have *never* had any trouble with any of them and they will tell you the things you don't want to hear.

Thanks. :+ :+

Just my two cents. FEDEXCC truck may have been preassigned on another load. Or possibly waiting to unload. Who knows??

Like when you accept a load because dispatch says Omaha NE is a hot bed of freight.. And Contractor support says "If they consider 3 loads a month a hot bed" or "well, I know you just came from Chicago and are in Omaha, but I suggest Chicago to move to" (I didn't by the way, accepted the empty move to KC where I scored a 930 mile load)

Somehow however, I find myself back in Omaha...

Oh ya. It's on the way to Wyoming and I have a apointment to get my windshield replaced in the morning. That is why I am here.

>I was awaken early this morning to a call from my dispatcher
>saying he had something. He explained he had a run that
>went from Huber Heights Ohio (Outside Dayton) to Oregon
>Ohio. They will take the pallets off-- do something to
>them-- put them back on the truck and I can take it down to
>Pell City, Oh. I thought it was kind of wierd the way they
>were going to put it on-- take it off-- then put it back on
>again-- but it was 856 miles-- I wasnt complaining. I went
>out to my truck to get the dispatch from the QC and it said
>the Shipper was "FedEx". Now Im half asleep and I read it
>wrote it down-- went in the house to look it up on map
>program and re-read the name of the shipper. "FedEx" It
>hit me. Im picking up at FedEx who has their own expedite
>company and expediting it to Oregon? I get down there and
>everyone's looking at me "Why is Try Hours herE?" Funny
>thing is-- there was a FedEx Custom Critical truck sitting
>at the corner by FedEx terminal. Again-- Im not
>complaining-- its 856 mile run-- just thought it was funny.

My wife and I get a kick out of it too when we pick up freight from other carriers. The first time it happened, we were amazed that a carrier with that carrier's resources had to call on us to bail them out of a bind. But after doing it many times since, we've come to believe that at one time or another, everyone hauls everyone else's freight. Customer commitments are made and to all carriers' credit, they'll call a competitor to get the job done if they must.

i once ran a load about 3 years ago when i was driving b units with panther 2. i was in mentor, oh asked to pick up an empty skid and some hardware in a paper bag in cleveland, oh. take the empty skid and paper bag to dallas, tx. while in dallas they loaded a mainframe computer on the skid, fastened it down with the hardware in the paper bag and sent me on my way back to cleveland. i for the likes of me couldnt figure out why they had me delivering a skid to dallas from cleveland but for almost 2500 miles round trip i didnt care. funny thing was i told them there was noway i could do that in any quick time period so they gave me 6 days to complete the entire run. 2500 miles on 1 load in february? i'll take it every time. sure did cost that company alot of money just to send a skid and a bag full of hardware to dallas. maybe they were out of skids in the dallas area? who knows. all i know is the truck owner and myself liked it. funny it was 1 of my very 1st runs as an expediter.

Yes the original run was from Huber Heights, Ohio to Oregon, Ohio which is 150 miles. Then from Oregon ohio to Pell City, Alabama which is approx 690 miles. Total of 840 miles.

Next when I got to Pell City Al- I stayed over night and the next day picked up at Talladega Al to Ladson SC. Nothing special about that run. But after that I got a run from Charleston SC to Timmonsville, Sc. Whats special about that you may say? Nations Express was supposed to pick it up. And two other drivers from other companies was too. Man- Im cleaning up everyones work! :+

The only reason (that I know of) that Nations Express didnt take this one was because a driver couldnt make it. Not sure on details- all i know is it was handed to me now-- thats what I worry about.
