Now that the Pipsqueak POTUS has declared himself to be the Pipsqueak Potentate, the law of unintended consequences will take over the law of the land if his fiat is allowed to stand.

Our rogue president has crossed an historic line, and so has the republic. Future presidents will cite the "Obama precedent" when they declare they will henceforth not enforce this or that law, because of a prior commitment to some noisy constituency.


We have just taken a monumental step away from republicanism toward Caesarism. For this is rule by diktat, the rejection of which sparked the American Revolution.

If the GOP controlled Congress allows this declaration to stand without challenge, one can easily see the same type of action coming from future presidents. The ultimate irony would be having a radical right-wing POTUS in office instead of a radical left-winger like Barack Hussein Obama. Suppose this future POTUS caves to the demands of a large, noisy constituency like the pro-lifers and decides he's not going to prosecute pro-choice laws or ignore provisions of what might be left of ObamaCare? Prosecutorial discretion can and will work both ways if the Constitution no longer means anything to the executive and legislative branches.

This isn't unprecedented, though. Lots of presidents issue "signing statements" when they sign a bill into law. The statements say which parts of the law the president will enforce, and which he'll ignore. I don't think any of them have done things to this degree, however. The problem with Obama is he thinks the checks and balances don't apply to him, especially if he wants something really, really bad.

Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. In today's GOP, the idea of any immigrant staying in the United States whether they are legal or illegal isn't something that conservatives embrace. What might shock them is that in 1982 Ronald Reagan gave nearly 3 million undocumented workers amnesty. The biggest reason for undocumented workers coming to the United States is because corporations hire them at a cheaper rate than they would an American citizen. All the laws that would have cracked down on companies who hire undocumented workers were, of course, removed from the bill.
