Obama asks church leaders to encourage people to sign up for "Obamacare"

I'm confused... according to the Wall Street Journal, and other sources, Obama asked church leaders to encourage their members to sign up.

If it's ok to ask the churches to help with his agenda, why isn't it ok to ask him for more help with ours

Is the 'separation of Church and State' that is much touted, only enforced when he doesn't want/need the church's help?

Seriously, I'm on the fence on this one.. I see the point.. and while I don't like the idea of penalties for not signing up, I also am a realist with no health care at this point.

Thoughts?

Obama is a total hypocrite who only uses the Constitution as a weapon and only when it suits his needs.

I am sorry you have no insurance. It is a VERY tough problem to be sure. I don't know the solution, other than a total outlawing of health insurance, which is my favorite solution.

I do know one thing, health care enforced by an armed agency of the Federal Government is NOT a valid solution, is VERY dangerous, and we ALL will lose in the long run. It will, in the hands of a tyrannical government, give them total control of every aspect of your life. From what you eat, own or do, you will be controlled.

Remember when they were going after the tax status of churches that used the pulpit for political purposes? I guess if you are supporting them it is OK.

As crazy as that may sound it just might work. The costs are what they are because millions have access to healthcare due to the fact they have insurance. Supply and Demand would cause the costs to plummet. The flaw to eliminating health insurance is that becoming a doctor would no longer be as lucrative as it is now and we would end up with far less of them than we have now.

We are already losing doctors due to Obama Care.

I am not quite sure how "lucrative" being a doctor really is. The cost of the educations is staggering. The cost of equipping and staffing an office is staggering. The cost of malpractice insurance is staggering. While SOME doctors, in specialties earn a lot, most just do well. I would also contend that if one looked at the combination of education levels, cost of operations, insurance costs, and responsibility levels, doctors are by far on the low end of the pay scale.

No sir... when I left my office drone position, I carried the coverage on for a while, but unfortunately, when business fell off at my previous carrier, I could not afford to keep COBRA coverage.

Being a big dude... most private insurance companies see me as too high risk to insure, tho my BP, sugar, cholesterol etc are all good.

Thought about doing an OOIDA catastrophic plan, but other than that, been self pay. My wife and I are both self employed, and since the kids are grown, we fall into that in between category.. too much to qualify for Medicaid, not old enough for Medicare to kick in, and can't afford the premiums insurance companies want right now.

I'm in the same boat but I don't want health insurance, the self pay has worked fine for us. We have paid up front for some wisdom teeth to be pulled and I ended up going to the ER twice which I setup payment plans on.

Yes there is a law about using the pulpit for political gain. One problem is they have never enforced this law and not one church has lost it's 503 tax status because of it. So as with many other laws that President Moron has broken why not one more. No one in this country has had the guts to stand for America and our way of life so why complain. He has the IRS on one of his agendas about the Tea Party, now the idiot in charge is going to bomb Syria for some ungodly reason. Our enemies are killing themselves, SO LET THEM DUMMY. Canada doesn't bother anybody and not many bother them, so why don't we just mind our own business.

These posts (yours and Paullud's) puzzle me. Is BCBS really that unaffordable in Ohio? I get Paul's....he's a New Yorker, but Ohio?

My portion of my BCBS policy, before I opted for my VA coverage, was 200 and change per month. Is it that outrageous in OH? If so, i would think you would be heralding Obamacare.

FWIW, i think COBRA is like filing a short form on taxes....you're getting the least bang for your buck. Another thought....on the self-pay: you're really rolling the dice, and time and your age are not in your favor. One incident, and unless you've socked away gobs of cash, you're bankrupt. Has to be a better answer.

To cover myself and my wife when I was working for Arnold (BCBS out of TN through US Xpress) it was roughly $100/week for medical, dental, and vision. Health insurance is a great deal if you are sick or go to the doctor regularly but it is a waste for me right now. Looking at a worst case scenario like cancer or an accident I would end up bankrupt with or without insurance.

If you think ocare will be cheaper guess again. There is story after story about the steep rise of coverage because of it. Insurance companies are dropping some states altogether. The whole thing is a mess.

On another note a friend pays 800 a month for her cobra coverage in oh.

I went to one of the websites that calculates how Obamacare is going to help me and found that now with the money I get from the government my health insurance will cost me what I would have paid before, plus all the government welfare, and several hundred on top of that. It is roughly a 75-80% increase which is higher now than when I checked a few months ago, give it a few years.

Well...Obama did ask the NBA and NFL but they declined. I am surprised he hasn't asked the rap and hiphop folks. Maybe that is coming?

Rates are going to go up. If you are going to insure 30M more that don't have coverage now, pretty good guess everyone will be footing the bill.
And of course, you have 11M illegals that will become part of that at some point. It is not part of the current bill, but it is coming.
