Cheri....... it is still illegal to go into NYC if you are over width or over length.....do you really want to take a chance and find out which police officers are enforcing the laws????
Point is, I wasn't illegal, last time, and if not for the FedEx post, wouldn't have known I'm over width now. Demanding compliance should require an equal responsibility to make the law known, IMO.
You really going to miss NYC that badly?

Nope, you know what they say, ignorance is no excuse. How else can NYC raise revenue? That is why truckers exist in this country, a tax source.
The carrier would pay the permit right? thru customer fees right?
SURE they do!!
Ours does pay NYC parking tickets!! IF you remind them in advance. NYC should be outlawed. There is no reason for a place like that to exist!! LOL!!! Nothing more than a HUGE money drain!! 
Not sure - the PDF is a bit small & hard to decipher....If a permit is needed, I'd get one, but it helps to know when it's needed, yes?

i believe that the reason bubblehead made the posting was to see if everyone knew of the regulations....and yes, the carriers should keep the contractors up to date on all compliances, but DOT officers will tell you that it is the driver's responsibility to know the laws and regulations...i should know after receiving tickets in maryland due to "Unusual vehicle law"....does everyone know what that regulation means, "What is an unusual vehicle"..I can tell you that it is NOT "the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile......(7 tickets later)...and the carrier told me on the c-link that I DID NOT need an escort to cross the bridge.....Boy were they wrong....happy ending is the carrier took full responsibility and paid fines/court costs...and negotiated no points on my record.....if not that would have been the last of my driving career....

So what does Md consider an 'unusual vehicle'?
Ask JuJu...$350 ticket for heavy truck on residential street...Sprinters are heavy?
Trucks are just cash cows. The more cash strapped states and cities become the more they will look to fine us for everything that they can.
That was in MD the DC district...

I agree it is ultimately the "driver's responsibility" but why would our carrier even send us an offer when we are not legal, and if we turn it down is it a refusal? Are we burdened to check routing then to confer with all state and federal regs each time we are given an offer? All in the 10 minute time limit. Shouldn't we be able to trust the carrier to do those verifications before even sending out the offer? I had one the other day that couldn't understand why my load capacity was dependent on which states I would be traveling through (2 axle straight truck with 9" wide steer tires).

Apparently NYC has for some time had restrictions on straight trucks limiting length to 35', width 8' and height of 13'6". If your straight truck exceeds any of these demensions, you must obtain a special "Daily Overdimensional permit for NON-DIVISIBLE LOADS" to operate within the city limits.
I want to thank a fellow O/O Sharon G. for bringing this to my attention. Perhaps our Carrier could be more diligent in keeping up with the regs. I have linked the NYC Official information sheet for fellow O/Os.

That's just outrageous!!!
I lucked out the other day, when I turned a corner [in NJ, I think] to go to the grocery store, and only then saw the weight limit sign - why isn't it posted where we can see it before we're on the dam street?
I'm getting tired of inadvertantly breaking laws, because they seem to be deliberately designed for that purpose.
out of state plate..the metermaid knew exactly what she was doing....who's going to fight it? it was 2 weeks before Christmas...
