Are their not FEDERAL law requiring a license to run certain types of motorized loading equipment? IF that is correct running it would be illegal. What does OSHA have to say about this? I know very little about this stuff.

I can and have used my OWN pallet jack to load my truck. I have, however, ran into problems with Unions when I did this.

By problems I mean that I have been STOPPED from unloading my OWN truck by a Union.

The incident involved a load of chairs that we took from Miami to a casino in Atlantic City New Jersey. I pulled in, opened my doors, and started to take the chairs off. I was "approached" by 3 men who stated that the unloading of trucks was a "Protected Union Job" and was told, in NO uncertain terms to get off of my truck. Then those same 3 VERY foul mouthed men proceeded to unload my truck, for THREE hours. They took multiple smoke breaks and had NO requard for Mrs. Layoutshooter as the talked about impregnating each other latter that night. (keep in mind that there were 3 MEN in this conversation)

It was NOT a fun day. It cost us a run as well. OH the joys!!

That truck is YOUR property...you set the chair on the tail and they reach over and pick it up....you control the truck and YOUR rules...

Yeah, YOU tell those 3 thugs that. They REFUSED to take the chairs off of the tailgate when I tried that. Keep in mind it WAS New Jersey and it WAS Atlantic City. Bring anything to mind? Sometimes it is just safer to go with the flow.

let me tell a story from years past,1986 and it was thanksgiving weekend
Roberts Express had me do a load from Cape Girado MO. to 4 Ford plants in Michigan, and instead of the full load that was called in,turned out to be 4 boxes that weighed a total of 40 lbs, just 4 small boxes.
I put them in the cab on the passenger side and went to delivery.
It picked up on Wed and didn't deliver 'til the next Monday.
To make a long story short,1st 3 stops went fine, then came Wixom. As I carried by hand each previous stop without a problem, union steward at Wixom shut down the loading docks and said I took a union persons job by bringing the box into the plant.
Of course they called Roberts, and I got a nasty letter.
In my 30 some years of driving truck,I've had food warehouses let me use an electric pallet jack, but never a tow motor,OSHA would really love to see that

It's cold in Ohio? It is quite warm, too warm, here in Michigan. It has been in the 50's all week. WAY above average. Guess it is trying to make up for what has been called the "Coldest Summer" on record here.
