I'm not an expedited driver, but I've been driving a CMV for a long time now and I visit this site quite often. GREAT PEOPLE and INFO!!! With that said, the company I'm driving for now just flew me down to N.O. La. to pick up one of their old, beat-up VAC trucks and drive it back up here to Philly. Drove back up I10,59,24,75,40,81,66,495,95. Total miles around 1200.Thinking back, I'll bet you I didn't see more than a HANDFULL of expediter trucks on the road!!!!! And one of them was in the Freightshaker shop in Birmingham,Al. What gives???

Perhaps the majority of expediters were driving NO to philly, ahead of and behind you.

If you would have stopped at every Flying J (or other Truck stop on that route), you could have probably counted some more sitting there waiting for loads, like me this week...:( I had nothing but trouble, not only is it slow for expedite vans; no, if there is a load out of town, then it's delayed so much that it ain't funny no more...:(

Not just vans. I'm having a record month ( bad ) this month myself. I've never seen it slow in May.

The economy is starting to slow down. Auto freight has really stalled. Everyone is fighting over the same freight which keeps pulling the freight prices down. Many companies now are overpopulated with trucks verses the available freight.
Companies will have to continue to recruit to generate the same cash flow.
Last year there was more freight than trucks, and this year is more trucks than freight. It looks like a lean year ahead based on alot of the posts.
On the positive side, if searching for good used equipment, it should start showing up in July and August.

I've seen several units in the last few days around the St. Louis area...saw an E-1 straight truck last evening westbound on I-64 in O'Fallon, IL, a couple P-2's earlier in the week, a westbound van near the scale house on 55-70 at Collinsville, IL and a straight southbound near Litchfield, IL...

I drive at night, every night. It is a dedicated route but I talk to PII and Tri State drivers every night at my picks and drops. All the drivers say it is very slow. I have noticed when it is one driver they tend to really say how bad it is. If there is more than one, everyone is doing fantastic. Funny how that works. Seems very slow to me and that is why I am keeping my mouth shut and thanking GOD for my dedicated.

Slowhand, we kinda notice that freight tends to move more (even with expediting) thru traditional freight lanes and areas. We always see more trucks on the Ohio Turnpike than 95 and 75 put together. And last night was no exception, I've probably seen 2 dozen different expediters in the past 3 days on that stretch.

We echo, it has been slower. We were in Shreveport last Friday with 8 PII's and 2 other carriers, so we skeedaddled to Beaumont Tx. Our weekly totals are still down about $1500-1000.
