The law requires us to pay for Medicare but does not require us to use it. We are Medicare recipients and can take it or pay for another insurance carrier to cover our medical needs. Medicare and my supplemental insurance pay 100% of our Doc and hospital bill since we've been eligible. Prescriptions are $3.00 generic, $9.00 name brand. Can't think of any reason to complain.

The major problem with people handling their own medical insurance is that they wouldn't. When they had any problem, particularly if on fixed income or unemployed, they'd be after the gov't to solve their problems. Now that's Medicaid and a whole 'nother story

Terry,
For many it works but for many it does not work. I think my father’s case is a good example; his insurance was good BCBS policy that he paid for monthly until he had to move to Medicare for the primary and than take a supplement policy from BCBS. Now he has paid out more for things than he did before because neither pays for services that were paid under the original policy. Under the dual coverage, the cost has exceeded the cost of having the original policy and the associated cost.

His case is not unique and just a quick example.

The cost per patient in administration fees alone does not really justify keeping Medicare and Medicaid in this form.

"But you are already sending your, and your children's, and your grandchildren's hard earned money to support a war in another country that did NOTHING to provoke us."

Did Germany, Italy, Korea and Vietnam provoke us?

Our Commander in Chief at the time (Our elected sitting president, you remember him..don't you?) decided that it was in America's best interest to get involved.

As a Veteran, when the call comes down to lock and load, I am bound by a solemn oath...To protect and defend against all enemies foreign or domestic.

PS. Supporting terrorism that results in the training of those who attack the Pentagon and two privately owned business centers with fuel laden missiles and results in the deaths of thousands of my fellow citizens seems like provocation to me.

Back on topic.

Dayton has a federally funded bus system know as Regional Transist Authority (RTA).

It is a huge system comprised of buses, mini buses and vans.

They run past our house pretty much empty all of the time.

The southeast Michigan transportation system is the most heavily subsidized system in the world, more specifically the Detroit portion of the system (DOT) with the per rider subsidy coming in at $1.90 where the cost to the ride ranges from nothing to $1.50. This system, like the city itself is mis-managed and a mess. I thought since they got new buses (thanks to us) that they would maintain them but yesterday I saw one of the new buses with busted engine compartment latches (lid flapping in the wind) and not been washed in a month - this is typical for all the DOT buses.

They have been trying to combine the two different systems into one and people have been fighting it. I don't know if it has happened but it would be a big mistake to do so.

OK David.
There are no proven links between Iraq and the terrorist attacks of 911.

There are no links with Iraq and WMD.
WE, meaning the USA,put Saddam Hussien in power in Iraq.
These are facts.
This us an inapropriate thread and probably an innappropriate forum to attempt arguements about the politics of the war in Iraq.
Perhaps you would like to start another thread ?

OK:) My response #24 already addressed the return to topic. It seemed apparent to me that my secondary post negated my single reply that was outside of the original topic parameter. I apologize for that single deviation from the topic.

Interesting, no mention of a topic shift to "Truck Talk" for the "Inverter" and "Tire" posts that can also be found on this page.

Personally, I understand why and I am not offended, but there have been recent concerns regarding clichés and favoritism within the threads. It may be something you might consider before posting a judicious response.

Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?"

I am sort of leaning towards David's remarks.

For some reason it seems that that the thread originated with a political centric statement, and has gone through several comments that are somewhat related but off topic. The Iraq comments are for what it's worth actually more related to the thread than other comments made.

Maybe the entire thread should be move to the soapbox to avoid any problems.
