Just as we settled in at home for the holidays this past weekend with family, little did we know what was to come our way or how quickly our personal plans would change!
Our phone wrang Sunday afternoon and it was dispatch on the other end. With so many trucks in the fleet like ourselves out of service for the holiday, they were in need of trucks to help service their valued customers during the holiday season including Christmas Day. Especially with so many families using the airlines to fly here and there to be with family members on Christmas and New Years Day. Afterall, jets still breakdown and need engines and parts so they can quickly get them back in the air. These customers are also valued by us so it wasn't hard for us to say yes to helping out.
We left home early Monday morning to pick up an engine and a module in Miami. One to deliver in Atlanta and the other delivering in Toledo. Along the Way we picked up another engine in Atlanta to deliver in northern Michigan. While enroute to MI we were routed to Chicago to pick up another engine in the morning to take to the same customer in Northern MI as the other engine. After that we rush down to KY and pick up another engine to deliver back in Atlanta by Sunday morning. Of course our sacrifice has not gone without being greatly rewarded in revenue. We like that very much!
So while many are unwrapping presents with family Christmas morning, we will be at an airport in Chicago wrapping an engine and chaining it safely to our deck. Afterall, our presents can wait and our family understands how this business works. It helps when they stand behind you.
Would we rather be at home with family? Heck yea! Are we sorry we chose to service important customers? Definately not! Is there a sense of pride in what we chose to do even though it meant not being with our family? Definely!
Two ways we look at this:
1. With the economy in the state it is and 2009 being a huge ? as to how the economy will treat us all, when the money is on the table one needs to grab it and be thankful it came their way.
2. If it makes a difference in a flight being availible for a child and thier family to travel to grandma's house for the holiday or our military men and women to get home from the base to be with family, then it was worth it!
We will get our time with family but first our customers will be taken care of, we will see to that.
Thanks to those of you who are also out here on Christmas Eve seeing to your customers. Although they might not always verbalize their appreciation to you, they show it each time they call your company with another load. Think about it, what ever carrier services them in their most critical time of need, surely they will hear from them again! Happy holidays to those of you that were able to be home. Enjoy your family time as it is also important!
Happy Holidays and be safe.
