I still have no input to the question I have asked for about a week now - can anyone help me?
Here is the situation.
I have only a chauffers license so I know my choices are limited. I know it is going to be a van, box truck, cube or maybe a sprinter. I have no problem with this - my question is - does one company shine over the other?
I will be driving for o/o no matter who I select. I have Tri-State, Express-1, ConWay(even though I don't think I can make money with them being bought by P2 and me just being a new guy in a van, Landstar, and a lady said she can put me in a van with FedEx and C & M Transport out of Ohio.
I am not sure who MIGHT keep me the busiest I know the o/o and their reputation is just if not more important than the company itself - I would just like to hear some input.
I am leaning more towards C & M Transport because I hear the treat eveeryone decent, they are small, etc and then maybe my next choice would be Express-1. Comments please!

Hey Greg,

Well, I don't drive for C & M, but I have heard really good things about them. I think Broompilot runs for them. You might send him a private message about it.

Other than that, the license issue is only one that can be resolved by talking to someone who recruits for them. Might just have to call them and get it first hand. Also, there is a section on this forum about recruiting. If you haven't already, you might ask this over there, or in the Newbie's Paradise.

First thing that comes to mind is what state are in living in? If in michigan, Express-1 may take you. FedEx requires a CDL and I would think so would almost every company would also. I know that unless the company and you are based in Michigan, the chances are slim to get by on anythng but a CDL running interstate freight.

Getting your C class CDL is not a big deal. As much as people are reluctant and like to complain about it- Hazmat is only a test and gives you more opertunity to make more money (of course depending on the company).

Busy? Well July has been slow for a few of us (normally is)and I would expect if March/April in 2007 is like 2006 - take up a good hobby to kill the wait time.

Hope this helps.

First of all your question is a very difficult one to answer. You have received replies from your other posts including me to advise you to obtain a full CDL.

Which company is the best? Who knows, what worked for me might not work for you. Who will you make the most revenue from, once again it's objective. To the best of my knowledge there is no individual who has worked for all of the companies you mentioned and can give a firm opinion as too who is the best. Most of us have been with one or possibly two companies and only have those numbers to go on.

Find one that you feel comfortable with and go with your intuition,if possible vist their headquarters and see if they appear to be an active company. Now one word of caution, splitting van revenue with the owner is not going to make you a pile of money. Owning your own van you can get buy and show a profit but when the owner takes his/her cut and you are buying fuel there won't be much left over. I would recommend that you get a CDL B License with a haz/mat endorsement and find a owner with a D Unit straight truck.

As stated previously, your primary concern should be finding a good owner to drive for and who cares what company it is as long as the owner is good. The company will make a much smaller difference overall than the owner will. A good owner is going to be with a decent company. A good owner won't stick with a crummy company. A good company can have bad owners. Companies don't police the owners all that much. Spend your time figuring out what makes a good owner and then finding one. That said, there have been scores of threads discussing various companies. If you go back page by page through the general and newbies forums for the last year or so you'll spend a huge amount of time reading over a huge number of threads building a huge database of information. Lastly, go to the expo in 2 days and talk to all the recruiters attending and build your short list based on that.
