no cheap freight

Help me understand something, every one is complaining about no freight or too many vans or trucks to compete with. if that is the case, do you think that maybe the people that post on EO are part of the problem? Don`t get me wrong, I think that EO is a great idea, but I don`t think that helping some one find a truck for an hour to take a driving test and head for the highway is really helping them,in my opinion this site is becoming just like JB Hunt or Swift or any other training company that puts unqualified people on the road that shouldn't be there.

I know 2 guys that put discounted van loads in their D trucks to get back from the TexMex border last week. If the alternative is leaving empty, how much money do you take out of your pocket to stand on principle? It is a frustrating game to have to play.

I think the difference between us and truckload carrier expedite is that the truckload people don't provide a pickup on a moments notice.

Interesting thread ....... I just went to a drivers meeting at the carrier I'm planning to lease on with this next week. One of the topics of discussion was the company's intention to raise their per-mile tariff rates ..... since what they pay o/o's is a percentage of the tariff rate, that effectively means a pay increase for the o/o's. (The owner asked if there was anyone not in favor ....... but no one raised their hand :))

Since I am new with them I have no idea what the previous rate schedule was and exactly how significant the increase is. The owner felt that they would still be very competitive. They have put on about a dozen vehicles in the last several months and are still looking for a couple more .... so they must be doing something right.

This is a smaller company and while I really have no history with them, the reason why I'm drawn to working with them is my own perception of their business ethics and the fact that they really seem to care about their o/o's. The company owner made the point that they as a company wanted to see more money going to their o/o's ......

The fact that owner himself drives is probably a plus. Time will tell.

All depends on what you consider cheap. I put an expedite van load on last week to get me out of Nebraska. It wasn't discounted, just a smaller load than I usually take, and at van rate. No one got a break on that one. Now, taking something for less than .85 (LTL, not expedited) is something I will never want to do. Can't say I won't, cause circumstances may change that makes my standards change, ie emergency, get out of Montana if I'm dumb enough to take one there, etc.

However, there are ppl who will take cheap freight on a consistant basis, like stacking their truck with NLM loads, crap LTL loads, etc. Those ppl may be laughing all the way to the bank now, but they're ruining it for everyone else. Also, they're shaping what the future of expedite will be, but by that time, they'll probably be retired and living in Mexico. Funny how that works.

As far as OOIDA is concerned, they have the right idea. But they're only as strong as their members' willpower. And I'd bet my first born there are drivers with "Say No to Cheap Freight" stickers on the outside of their truck while the cheap freight is sitting in their truck.

And... LOL. All these companies who claim to be expedite. You can call a turd a cookie if you want. Hopefully you'll take the sniff test before taking a bite. ;)
