To all those ex "Conway Now"- "Panther" owner/operators who are going through a tough time and are sitting on the fence here is a little advice; take the jump to the other side! The grass is greener and your stress level will go down 58.6%.
I always believed in loyality and didn't want to change carriers, but enough was enough. Good luck to all you ex -496's. It was always nice meeting and taking to you ladies and gentlemen during our transfers at CCX, CSX.

Be Safe

We agree.

Please do not respond by "bashing" but we really are curious as to where everyone went?

If reading this and you are ex-Con-Way people or know where others went that don't read EO ...please just take a second and PM us on what you are doing now.

Well our owners just switched most of us over to Tri-State. The trucks they had on were doing twice as much money as us on with Panther. Still seeing how things work. Plus both Panther and Tri-State allow us to use our log program DDL. We love it.

Hello, just wondering what a log program DDL is? Was watching a lady do her logs online one nite and she said it was a program she downloaded off the internet to do her logs and loved it, is that what you are talking about? Would love to know how to get one, thanks!

I’ll have to agree with you on this one only been gone since Wednesday had some stuff done on truck and while that was getting done checked out another company and decided I was not going back to the 2 headed cat and am glad moved on my stress level is back to normal.
Know I’ll miss a few people there but the $$$ I’m making now will make up for it.

Glad I could help you out there babs3361 and Jammer I’m running my tail off now also! I think some are happy and favored there and others aren’t its been said over and over again and guess its not just the Con-Way people that got treated that way and guess its just not us that wants to keep the fuel going on the subject either. Hope you stay on P2’’s good graces I’d hate to say I told you so later.

There might be a reason there is 2 heads on their logo might have some thing to do with the split personalities? Just a thought! One day you’re their best and favorite next you’re a deadbeat low life truck driver saw it before lived it my self.
Either way good luck to ya both.

Alvin
And also babs people have gone all their life’s with out accidents and when they finally had one its their last one if ya know what I mean, so be careful out there don’t’ get over confident. Knocking on wood might not hurt either.

Been exceptionally busy short of a truck that got stuck in Phoenix, AZ friday afternoon. Got there too late in the afternoon, but they did get a chance to go to the races with Team Caffee.
Whatever fallout came with the Conway deal, certainly appears to be over. Some of our latest runs have been phenominal.

I guess from the sound of it, many of us have moved on and are now settled in with other carriers/companies. This is a good thing. I do wonder though, if the customers that Panther acquired through the Con-Way buy-out were worth the number of quality drivers and/or owner operators they lost from both companies?

Con-Way is gone, so any trepidations regarding their status in the expediting industry is moot. I do wonder if the aftermath of the buy-out has hurt Panther’s overall reputation especially with regard to the newbie’s coming into the expediting industry. Word of mouth is the best, and the worse, form of publicity/advertising.

I am preaching to the choir, but with the continued rising cost of equipment, fuel, and the HOS regulations, I personally don’t see the pool of new owner operators growing, especially husband and wife owners. The pool of solo/team “drivers†may be stable; I have no first hand knowledge of this. So, maybe the fleet owner will be the real benefactor of the buy-out. However, it seems as though the classifieds seeking drivers are still growing rapidly. I have talked to some fleet owners recently and many say they are having a heck of a time getting drivers, even for the high end White Glove units. Many have said they have had to settle for warm bodies on more than one occasion just to keep their equipment running. This is a sad state of affairs for this industry.

To those of us left from the Roberts era…did you think it would ever come to this? When we are now hauling expedited freight for less than we did 6, 7, or 8…. years ago?!

Not bragging, Its called the power of prayer, and thanking him each and every day for watching over us. Wood has nothing to do with it.

Driver's Daily Log is a very good program, well worth the cost. I have re-loaded it my laptop(s) twice with no charge. If used regularly or whenever a question arises concerning hours, you cannot make a mistake. You can enter info and approximate times and see when you will be in violation... Especially great when one tries to utilize the 2/8 split sleeper. That is the source of most log violations...Great tool!

Well simply put...some people will never be happy no matter where they go..I came over with the con-way buyout, was doing good with con-way, with them for over 5 yrs. I am doing just as good if not better with Panther.I read somewhere the other day "there is no such thing as a bad load, just bad attitudes", sometimes when reading this fourum, I totally disagree with that statement, then others I totally agree. Nothing is guarenteed in this wonderful, exciting style of work we have chosen to do, but it is all about what you make of it.
