I know there are company's out there that will raise the roof on the Chevy and Fords, but not many will raise the doors to match the top. Why doesn't Chevy or Ford do this. Well not a big enough market to tool an assembly line, but for a strong aftermarket to the right company would be a huge sales market for the expedite industry. Just my opinion.
I am refering to someone taking their C/Van in and redoing the body.

ford may be doing this with the new transit..... i can't see either tooling to change current bodies.

You may want to re-think that.....HUGE market for raised roofs....most of the trades people....to have workshops on site....roadside truck repair...TV trucks.....even dog groomers are using them....not to mention EMS uses...and paddy wagons.....

Ok I guess I should respond to this post being I own the NV 3500. I have averaged 16.8 over the time that I have had the vehicle. I only run between 62 and 65. I have run faster then that at times but my fuel mileage drops significantly. One thing about the van that I do not like is that i can use the cruise through the mountains. If You use the Cruise through the mountains it constantly upshifts and downshifts which make the fuel mileage drop. I am looking into an on board computer to improve the mileage.

My Chevy 3500 does the same thing with the cruise but not just in the mountains. It will sometimes do that even on a long and tall overpass. It is very annoying.

That's the nature of cruise control. I always turn mine off when running hilly country or mountains and often engage the tow/haul mode to prevent unwanted down shifting and to keep it in a lower gear going down hill. The tow/haul mode is also nice to use in slippery conditions when my road speed varies between 45 and 60 mph. This reduces any sudden down shifting.

Back to the Nissan topic. I thought I read somewhere that this van came with an optional manual transmission. Does it?

I'd expect downshifting when loaded, especially heavily, pulling something like Jelico or Cajon but empty crossing the ship channel bridge is a little too much downshifting. I haven't heard about a manual transmission for the NV but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

I've spoken with several dealerships and the reason the NVs aren't selling good is because they are too short inside.

Yesterday I saw a Nissan dealer at Burns harbor advertising them at 0% interest and 1 dollar under invoice. Doesn't say much for sales.

So far not too many on the road... when their price will drop to 25K for a 3500 hi-top, I'll consider it an alternative to my E-350, but til then, let 'em rotten in the dealership's backyard...

I just purchased a 2500 Hightop HD S with a V6. It was extremely windy today, and it handled well.
The Nissan has a selection on the gear lever that allows you to place it in a manual shift mode where you control the shifting using the +/- switch. But not a manual shift using a clutch.

If that helps to clear that up... :)

Additionally, the in dash MPG showed an avg of 20 to 21 with the tail wind, and no less than 17 against the wind (EMPTY). We'll have to run this for a bit to confirm any accuracy, comparing this to actual fuel purchases and miles driven....

How much weight can you legally carry with the 2500?

It depends on how you outfit the van... I am aiming at 2200 lbs.

My first trip across the scales put me at GVW 6620. Full fuel, clothes, etc.
The GVWR is 9100 on the 2500. 9100 - 6620 = 2480 max legal cargo weight.

If I needed to throw out a couple of things, I could get that closer to 2600 or so, but have no desire to.

Ours too. It sucks. Those runs in the Carolina's and Virginia's are a pain.

That can all be fixed by reprograming the engine/transmission control cumputers with custom tune...i have been looking at Blackbear Performance Systems myself..
