from my email to head office:

"At this time, we have no information about plans to introduce an extended cab version of the NV line up in the near future."

(doesn't mean one won't be released tomorrow though)

We are getting conflicting information, which isn't surprising. An extended model would change the whole cargo van market in North America.

I agree. The problem with speaking to dealers and marketing is they only care about selling what they now offer. I don't know anyone other than that to contact.

the NV is built in Canton Mississippi..I have delivered there more then a few times..i had a plant tour the 2nd time i was there. Seen them built from each panel up ( they hightop has more supports in it by itself then a complete Sprinter as in the whole van)...there were prototypes all over, no long bodies to be seen in cargo or pass vans. I asked and was told just as Scotts e-mail said, not in the near future....which is a shame.....

Now, while i wouldn't buy one until the long one was out, they are showing up out here...I'll pull a greg here and say, just last night I seen 3 of them, 1 from E-1, 1 from Bolt, and a RED one from "TURRI".... That was the 1st Turri unit i have seen out here!!! :)

Reason probably being is that this thing is based on the Nissan Titan Pick-Up Truck frame. The Frame/Engine/Drivetrain configurations are already all tooled up on the factory floor and all Nissan is doing is slapping a Cargo Van on top of 'em instead of a Pick Up Truck.

To have an "Extended" version, of which right now is probably only wanted by the "Expediting" Community ( .000578% of Cargo Van Purchasers ) , Nissan would have to spend Millions and Millions to re-configure their Framing Divison, or make a new plant overall to produce an extended framed model.

And that they are probably NOT going to do to please just 1 out every 12,498 Nissan Cargo Van Buyers.

I think the frame is already completely different than the Titan, but I agree it doesn't sound like an extended is a priority.

Nope.....it's configured and built entirely around the Titan frame.

Just as the Suburban is built on the Silverado Frame. The Hummer H2 is built on the Tahoe Frame, as well as the Silverado Shortbed/Reg Cab Pick Up is. Just as the Hummer H3 is built on the TrailBlazer frame. Just as the Honda Passport is built on the Accord frame, the CRV is built on the Civic frame.........and so on. :)

I realize the Titan also uses a boxed frame. But everything I've read says the frames are different. Doesn't matter if they ain't gonna stretch it.

Considering the majority of extended length sprinters are driven in non-expedite applications, I think it's a weak argument to say that only expediters would be interested in an extended length Nissan, Ford, Renault....or whatever.

one problem i see with the NV is that it is a Nissan.
a company, that placed ALL of it's future resources on an Electric car that can get only 100 mil. per charge.
this is not just another Nissan car, the whole ability of Nissan to even stay in business relay on their ability to sell those cars, which to date did not yet materialized.
those cars are being assembly at the Smyrna TN plant, i was there inside just 2 weeks ago, the line is not moving, and the lots are empty. did any of you guys ever see any LEAF leaving the plant ?
at this point, Nissan is heavily founded by it's mother company Alliance group.
are we willing to bet our future on their ability or interests to keep dumping good money after bad to support a green agenda ?

There is definitely a demand for Ford and GM extended vans outside of expediting, while probably having less market share than the regular length van.

I'm sure the current president and congress are more than willing to dump good money after bad to help Nissan and to support a green agenda, at any cost. I wonder if the U.S. Treasury uses soy based ink. Now that would be green, greenbacks.

Someone has to go after the "green agenda" as you oil lovers call it....Oil is NOT a renewable resource....while we won't run out anytime soon...technology MUST move along, alternative power sources must be found....
