Give away free stuff to some people in order to get free money from other people. Excellent...

NH Airport Offers $12 Flights | ABC News - Yahoo!
Just in time for the end of the busy holiday season, Cape Air and a regional airport in New Hampshire are promoting flights to Boston and New York for $12.

In attempt to qualify for federal grant money by flying out at least 10,000 passengers this year, the airport and Cape Air, its only airline, are offering holiday travelers the last-minute steal of a deal - $12 each way.

"We're basically sold out," said Trish Lorino, director of marketing and public relations for Cape Air. "That's the highest number of enplanements for Lebanon Airport in quite a long time."

The promotion, introduced on Christmas Eve, is an attempt to reach 10,o00 enplanements - a term to describe people flying out of an airport - for Lebanon Airport, a small, regional airport in the upper valley of New Hampshire. Once the airport hits the 10,000 mark, the FAA will give $1 million in grant money to help fund projects for the community airport.

What a deal. The airport sells a $200 retail $120 cost ticket for $12 to get $1M for 10,000 tickets adding $100 into each ticket so they only lost $8 per ticket. That's the liberal brainless moron gimme goober what can I get from the government American way.

It still saves them a ton of money in the end. Kinda smart on their part actually. The problem is with the fed program I don't blame them for taken advantage of it. Not any different than someone using a fed program to put an APU on their truck or us using all the deductions we can to lower our tax.

I would give this a "like", but there is no like button in the post.

Just on first glance and not thinking too deeply....It seems silly...;)

It is essentially public transit. The FAA gives away tons every year to subsidize small airports across the country. Like any public transit it cannot survive on its own buses, planes, or trains it all sucks in public money. Yes it is all very silly.

Well, not entirely so. Almost all of us would buy our own $8k APU rather than take advantage of the government special $12000 APU with a $3500 government environmental credit.
