I'm new to all this and have some ?'s.

My husband is thinking about hitting the road in a couple of weeks and giving the whole expediting thing a shot.

He was talking with the O/O he'll be driving for and the guy told him that he was pulling out so he could get there (the place where his load is waiting)by 12 am, but it wasn't going to be ready til early in the morning. He told my husband that he needs to be as close at possible to the top of the board. My ? is ~ if he was offered a load thru the Qualcom data and accepted the offer, why does he need to be there by 12 am to be on the top of the board? What board is he talking about? When my husband and the O/O started discussing everything about expediting he only mentioned the Qualcom data system, nothing about a board. I'm t-totally confused now. Can someone please fill me in?

Thanks in advance! :)

Can u advise what Company he is thinking of going with? Differnt companies have different procedures, generally the top of the board means after you are unloaded and waiting on another trip. The idea is to get to the location where your carrier would like you to be asap.

In a nut shell... basically it's 1st in/1st out type of dispatch when the term "board" is used. Example... your husband drives a truck into Detroit, MI... to a particular area in the detroit area... and he's the 2nd truck to show up in the area on the QC back at the Co. HQ's. Then he's the 2nd truck that will be chosen for a load out of that area.
Exception to that might be: There's a expediter Cargo Van there and the load order calls for a straight truck, if he's in a straight truck then he'll be chosen 1st. Now, there's also an exception to that as well, if the load has to go to a part of the country 15 hours from point of p/u, and he's running solo, then 1 of 2 things will happen... either he'll get the load and run it to a switch dock where a team can take it on thru, or the load will have to wait until a team can get to it. Teams have priority over solo's, simply because dispatch knows that those trucks with teams won't have to stop to rest, sleep, or eat as often.

They could also mean load boards, it's basically a bulleten board where loads that need a truck are posted, and brokers and/or O/O can bid on those loads to move them.
Hope this helps.
