Sorry Bucky
To get back on target it may be very tough to get in on a DUI regardless
of time.
Honestly I could not give you an educated answer, you may want to try (if considering a van) airfreight forwarders in the greater Orlando/Tampa area.
It would be a place to start if you could get a van and I believe some will have a little more relaxed insurance requirement and can still be lucrative doing P&D.

I think this new person is wanting information on Florida, rather than a personal statement on how one thinks people do or do not respond to posts.

What in the world is wrong with everyone. It's either diaphanous epidermis or paranoia or a severe shortage of chill pills or any of a number of other issues floating around.

buttload, noun, (slang) a great quantity

For around 40 years using the term has meant the same. If someone has a buttload of information they have A LOT of information. It's nothing to give a second thought to and take up half a thread throwing around. It just means A LOT OF WHATEVER IS UNDER DISCUSSION.

Now can we get back to standard thickness dermis and untwisted shorts and whatever other areas of normalcy this twisted us from and get on with our regularly scheduled thread?

Bucky01;

Whenever I receive a recruiting call from a person based in Florida, I always refer them to one of the "large" expedited carriers such as Panther, Fed-Ex CC or especially out of Florida - Landstar. Even in the "truckload" industry it is often a challenge for the carrier company to get loads out of your state. You are more than likely correct with your assumption that you may need to deadhead to GA or at least northern Florida to get loads out.

As for the DUI issue. I would suggest that you apply to the larger carriers for the reason stated above. Carefully read the questions on their applications with regards to DUI's, such as "Have you ever" or "In the last 5 years"... and answer honestly. Never try to hide such an offense as it can come back to haunt you and the carrier you lease onto. I am unaware of how long any traffic convictions stay on your Florida MVR as I do not hire drivers from there. I do know that Ohio only retains for three years, Michigan for seven and Indiana for ten years. I myself will never hire a driver whose MVR still shows this violation, though all the other companies most likely have different policies - thus the reason I suggest applying directly to the companies. By applying to the companies you will get the correct answers.

I hope this helps you in your endeavor.

Thanks,

Hello, I have been reading this sight for several months to learn as much as I can, I am an X class A driver who did Sattelite installations too, It is too hard work and winter is a tough to be out in the cold. I am in a little better location than you, I am in SE Missouri but moving to Muncie Indiania to be in the freight lanes so I can be home more. I am looking at several companies myself, I have no DUI problems or MVR issues myself, I agree with the others go from carrier to carrier amd discuss the issue with them up front. I would hope with the increasing number of DUI's because of new lower limits, not more people drinking, people make mistakes but they should not be given a life sentence. these companies will have to back off on some of this strict rules, there are just not enough people that perfect anymore.

Welcome, Fastlane, and thanks for joining in.
The "companies" whose rules we live by, in this case, are pretty much the insurance companies - and they don'r seem inclined to change their rules much, except to reduce their own risks. It's a fact we have to live with: one mistake can ruin your whole life. Scary, huh? But DUI is a mistake that is so potentially catastrophic, and easily prevented, there's no excuse for it, IMO.

I think you might be nursing a false hope. I once worked in a prison where they had to switch from one inmate per cell to two, in large part because DUI laws changed to jail repeat offenders. Public sentiment against prison overcrowding paled in comparison to public sentiment against drunk driving.

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) has become a very powerful political organization. They have the zeal of a religious convert and they are very good at what they do. CDL holders are an easy target as they are already regulated at a level above the ordinary, non-commercial driver.

The current don't-drink-and-drive public context motivates insurance companies to shun DUI offenders. They do so because juries are happy to award big bucks in DUI cases. The very last thing an insurance company wants to do is defend a repeat DUI offender in court.

With the public against you and insurance companies wanting to avoid you, few carriers will be willing to back off their strict DUI standards.
