It's actually worse when your sitting around waiting for someone to made up their collective minds to give you the job then everyone is in a super hurry except the receiver who really could care less because they are over stocked on that part anyways!! I was once 5 days late picking up a load because someone down stream screwed up I got chewed up by shipper when I got to receiver they weren't even aware it was shipped yet imagine that more stupidity

Your input would be very helpful!

Another thing you may want to get use to hearing over the phone is the term: Ready Now.
Dont beleive it. What they are really telling you is,,If your feeling lucky head over there. :)

Follow your load profile and you will be good to go..Any other early p-up or drop is just a bonus. If load profile needs to change they WILL call you.

Ready Now.

I ran solo last week. They woke me up to tell me the load times did change. I said "I'll head over to be ready for 08:00 pick- up."
I'm very familiar with shipper, and this seemed the proper thing to do.
I went back to sleep.
They woke me up and said " Frt is ready NOW. Can you head over and get it ?"

Things do change in this business so I said " Sure." Why not ? I'm awake :(

Drug my feet a little and arrived around 6:50.
The frt was on the dock since last night.
The paperwork gets processed at 08:00 or later .

Just another day......

No not panther... :s

Then FedEx?

If it is the Fed,when under load you are supposed to send a bed card if you stop for more than 15 minutes.
(Bed card) = Express Center Check In

Then check out when you are moving again.

No but I've heard panther has this annoying policy as well Do you know of others who DON'T do this?

Most of the companies don't do that. On the contrary, some won't let you take a nap break, just to make sure you get in time.

When we stop we punch a few buttons on the clink.
This lets them know it's a planned stop. You didn't pass out with a medical issue, go off the side of a cliff, or being robbed.
When you're done. A few more clicks and you go.
They do bug you sometimes. The longer you have 100% performance the less of an issue it seems.

And that's part of the service we sell. Do you want to put a very high value shipment on the truck and have the carrier say "he was somewhere near Cleveland when he check called a few hours ago." ?

Some won't "let " you take a nap ?

Who's the captain of that ship ?

Some small carriers which to make sure they get the freight they're bidding on, are pushing the delivery time to extreme, the unpleasant extreme (for drivers, of course)...

Greed, at it's finest.

Some brokers push that envelope on drop protects too. I've started bidding, when I see it, with transit times based on 50 MPH. Most use 50 MPH with posted loads but a few override the protect. I find 50 allows for up to about 10 mins per transit hour to squeeze in a nap. Sometimes you just have to. I have NEVER had anyone question my "Current positions" after a nap. Never. As long as dropped by protect, which I'm still 100% on, everyone is happy.

Oh yeah, and I almost always quote transit time on the "deliver direct" loads. "Direct" leaves too much guessing to be done.
