Milford, CT hotels, motels with a nice Pilot. Thats about as close as your gona get and be affordable. I mean a room for under $100 in a safe area.

My preference if I was allready on the east side of the Hudson was to go down to JFK in Jamaica. (about 18 miles from downtown NY). I spent many a night in that dirt parking lot by the McDonalds arounf 147th and Rockaway Blvd. Now thats also only a few hundred yards from the Fedex facility near Rockaway and Boundry rd. If I was gonna leave my truck unattended and play tourist I could park out in front of the gate within sight of the guard. Then walk a couple hundred yards up to Rockaway and catch a bus into the city. Also, if you drive for Fedex I believe you have access to shower facilities at that location, but not sure?

If on the west side I would park at the Vince Lombardi travel plaza and take a short taxi ride to the nearest transit station.(Last time I was there, you could catch a bus right at Vince Lombardi on weekdays but no service on weekends)

Anyway, I can't see spending big bucks for a hotel just for a place to sleep

There's also the Jersey City Truck Stop off of 1/9, by the Pulaski Bridge if I'm not mistaken. There's a few small truckstops along 1/9 in Jersey City - almost always with lower fuel prices than everywhere else in the immediate surrounding area's - However there is only a very select few that offer overnite parking. The somewhat big Jersey City Truck stop is not that far from the GW Bridge - depending on the time of day/nite you're there, you can be in the city within 30 min. to an hour - roughly. Bob.
By the way, some of those t/s's do take ComData cards as well.
