Service plazas on the New Jersey Turnpike, a couple Wal Mart stores out on Long Island...take your pick. If you head west on 78 toward PA, there is a TA and a Pilot almost at the PA state line and there's a Pilot in Milford, CT. None of those truck stops are exactly close. The one in CT will take you over an hour to get to and those couple in NJ at least 45 minutes.

If we were delivering in NYC on Friday and had no prospects for freight taking us out, Diane and I would probably drive to Bordentown, New Jersey with plans to spend the weekend at the Petro there. It is about 80 miles from NYC and a safe distance away from all the things that can go wrong in you stay in or near the city. Eighty miles and a few tolls is a small price to pay for the peace of mind Bordentown provides.

If you want to be a NYC tourist, the Petro bobtail lot is a reasonably safe place to park a straight truck while you take a cab to the nearby train station and head back into town for tourist fun.

Pay attention to the truck routes in NYC. Here is an excelent resource for you.

I forgot about that Petro. Not a bad choice either. I usually try to stay closer to the city because I've not had bad luck there, but to each his own.

The NYC area (including Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, Manhattan and any other areas around there I haven't listed) is one part of the country that we will not go to. Our owner knows this and he is fine with our decision. We gladly let someone else have those loads.

Right now, I don't think there is such a thing as a place I won't take a load. As far as I'm concerned, the more people think that about NYC, the better. That keeps the competition away when I'm up there.

Altho'w I have being hundreds of times in NYC ,
I have rejected any load going in , t'ill i had a full 2 years of TT experience .

You can go out of the GWB , tk rout 4 ,to rt 17 N ,
to the TS just B4 the 287 ,
bring your own food to that area...(or eat your own black cat...)
Mahwah , NJ.
23 Mil. off The GWB. , all HWY , no tolls ,you can spot some malls just off the Hwy when you get closer .

About 4-5 miles down the road by the petro in Bordentown is a HUGE flea market that's open year round. It's not trashy....people sell only new items...and it's alot of fun PLUS helps to kill time.
As for the walmarts in the city, keep your doors & box locked. They're not in the 'nicest' neighborhoods.
As for the travel plazas.....they're ok and safe. Security drives thru all the time. The drawback is that if you get a load going in the opposite direction, you have to go approx 10 miles to the nearest exit to get turned around.

We most often head for Bordentown as well. We might even end up there this weekend. We deliver tomorrow near Philly at 9AM. Who knows where they will send us. Atlanta? HEHE

I live in Connecticut. My suggestion for the New York runs, is either go to the Vince Lombardi, or the Pilot in Connecticut. Runs are actually really decent coming out of the area. Been as far as Laredo, Tx. And, Russellville, Ar

The Vince Lombardi is not bad. We have done well out of Bordentown, most of our loads out of NYC have more than enough time to get in from there. Besides, we enjoy parking out in "Expediter Row" and having the chance to talk with other expediters. Shoot, we even talk to non-FedEx drivers!!! LOL Layoutshooter
