new york bridge toll increases!

Well if they aren't "integrated" in some way, you won't be using the bridges or tunnels....in other words, someone is going to pay the increase...who, depends on each drivers situation...see how that will work?? :rolleyes:

Another way to explain this is like this...I bought a new taller Van...the Ohio turnpike and several other state toll roads charge me more because their tolls are based on height as well as weight and other consideration....so they "integrated" this new additional charge onto my bill...I then "integrated" it into my payment to them...if i want to use their toll roads....

Who started the rumor that we are all rolling in the dough out here? we may look good on paper-that's about it.

no matter if we are "rolling in dough" or not, can you explain how to use the NY tunnels aand bridges without the increase in tolls being paid???

We talked about tolls in another thread a week or so ago...my carrier will pay them, all i have to do is submit them...i don't do it....to me it is a cost of doing business...besides that, i am too lay to figure them up each week....it ain't worth the time or effort...

Tolls - Bridges &amp Tunnels - The Port Authority of NY & NJ

Having sat in my "fare" share of backups in the NY NJ area there is NO BIGGER mis-management of revinue than that of the Port Authority. To read that they claim to be in a dire finacial circumstance is no less than laughable. That sould be a red flag after looking at the rates they get when a quick search says 293,000 cars alone cross the GWB alone per day. Where does it all go? From the feel of it, it's not getting put back in to the roads.

You are correct, it's not getting put back into the roads. According to the article linked, it's getting put into "post 9-11 security measures and the rebuilding of the WTC, which the Port Authority owns."
Is that an appropriate use of road & bridge tolls? I don't think so!

LOL, it is nothing more then a "cash grab"...the state, county,and city like the country are broke...do you really think they give a dang where they can steal cash from the please and if the use is agreeable to those same citizens...please...oh and when they DO need more money for repairs to the bridges and tunnels, lol, they will come back again and grab somemore...

The hudson river crossings were $2 each way 10 years ago, they have quadrupled in price. Staten Island is facing two huge infrastructure projects, one the raising of the Bayone Bridge to allow the super carriers to get into Howland hook container station, the cost is projected at just over $1 billion, & it's cheaper to raise the bridge than to build a new one.

2nd the replacing of the 80 year old Gotheals bridge. Which is flat out dated, & is falling apart. The cost of that project is in the billions. The PA has been talking about replacing this bridge for abut 10 or 12 years.

If you look at the PA's capitol projects list not ONE DOLLAR is alocated towards these desperatly needed projects. They have money spent for re-habing the GWB bridge to replace the suspension cables, they have several projects at the Holland & Lincoln Tunnel, & last but not least the black hole money pit that is ground zero.

Once again Staten Island gets shafted so hard by the PA, the state's of NY & NJ. The people of Staten Island pay the highest tolls & have the longest commute to & from work in the country. We are used to carry a huge amount of burden placed on us from each side of the Hudson.
