Definitly slowdown and keep speed under 65. The Sprinter will feel and react to the high winds a lot worse over that speed. Also fuel economy sucks over that as well so that's money out the window.
As for tires there are winters, the Blizzak W965 and the Nokian Hakkapaletta LT that have a 10 ply rating. Both are tops in winter tires in the world so worth looking into. I've found with a load of 1500 or more snow tires are not a big deal as the load makes the rears bite nice. I did a load to Thunder Bay through a 24" snowfall with 1600lbs on and made it with a little fun driving. Supposedly with the duals in the rear snows are not necessary but some guys have found otherwise in canada.
BTW guys winter tires are mandatory in Quebec this year. The law does apply to vans and pickups so watch yourselves while drving there.

My last pair of semi-aggresive rears were Coopers E rating 10 ply from Belle Tire in Detroit area...Free install, Free balance, Free valve stems, Free Nitrogen! $95 bucks each and got 165,000 miless outta them.....and never got stuck or slid much...so if you really think a 220 dollar tire is worth an extra 50,000 miles...go for it...;)

oh wait....Blizzak sticks to the ice....guess thats worth something...;)

lsldriver, i am curious as to why your van can only carry 1500 lbs?

I have the midway sleep and it ways about 700 or so pounds. I really do not have anything extra (minimal clothes, food, ect), I weigh about 260(need to loose weight to make more money):D. When I weighed I had a dry weight of 7000 lbs and the van is 8550 and some change. THe last company put me at 2000 lbs without looking at a weight ticket.
