I guess I got out of expediting at the right time. I got a job about 6 months ago delivering custom shutters to installers in TN., KY.,NC.,SC.,VA., AND WV. I'm paid every week and all my expenses on the road, even meals, are covered. If they have a small hot shot order that will fit in my van, I take it and am paid mileage on top of my other money. The only drawback to this job is I have to do a logbook in the company truck but I deal with it. I'm usually out 2-3 days but stay in a nice hotel while I'm out.
All of these are good ideas! (except maybe the goats, Oh and the Candy Man) We just need about 500-1000 more van drivers to get out of the business. Then, maybe there would be enough freight to keep me running. Maybe I could get the Supreme Court to write a new law ( not their job, but it hasn't stopped them yet) to raise the fuel surcharge to about a buck. That could be way cool. Tax breaks on tires, oil changes and Blue Beacon would be nice too. Just some ideas.
