New to Load 1

Life is what you make it. If it sucked before, it'll still suck.

Mine was pretty low before, even considering who my previous carrier was. Plus, I take medication for that.

While I subscribe to the many worlds theory which posits the existence of an infinite number of Turtles in an infinite number of universes, I assure you that in none of them am I dancing.

That much is true. Sort of.

Except the "Pay Screen" machine. Seems like that thing is always needing oiled. It hardly ever works.

That's only because the company respects its drivers.

And before you know it, you too will be another distracted driving statistic.

But make no mistake, Load 1 is not a substitute for Viagra, despite the often sudden change in how well you pants fit when you do get that "Pay Screen".

Nice attitude! beautiful, positive outlook! Awesome!:D

Well, I have had smoother starts with a company, but nothing major, and not Load 1's fault. Had a cpl things to fix on truck, but now no heat in sleeper. Will have to take it to alumi-bunk dealer in Toledo, when done here.

A guy in my orientation class is here to drive for a fleet owner (new to L1), but is now having 2nd thoughts. Truck the owner had him pick up is pretty crappy, owner was supposed to find him co driver, as he wants to team, to start, since he's new to expediting, and only a few years driving experience. But owner avoids question. Also avoids pay questions, and questions about getting things inside truck fixed, like refridge that leaks and keeps carpet soaked. Then last nigh, after truck sat most of day without being turned on, wouldn't start yesterday eve. We tried to jump it, but no go. So he's about ready to throw in towel and head home.

So I've offered him 2nd seat with me, for at least a few months, to get him into it. He's agreeable, but we have to discuss with Brian, who wasn't in yesterday. So will sit here till Monday, see what happens.

Oh, and thank you all, for the 'welcomes'.

i hope it works out and he does climb in the truck w/you. we dont need fleet owners like that here or anywhere for that matter. if people drop them like a hot potato when something seems fishy then they will cease to be fleet owners.

on another note jim, you might give brian @espar a call about your heat problem. he is closer to the yard than toledo and also i thought the guys from alumibunk repaired stuff at the old bldg. at the entrance to the detroiter. brian is pretty good !!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up about Brian. I just called the # for alumi-bunk in Toledo, it's gone. So will try him.

Regarding the fleet owner, I won't accuse him of being a bad one, just stating things I'm seeing, and what this driver is going through. Driver did tell me the owner has 5 trucks, and 4 have been abandoned by his previous drivers. This driver picked up one near Akron, I believe, and the other driver here had to pick his up in IL. And the owner had to go to AL to recover one. Makes one wonder.

Jim,
If you don't have any luck getting the heat fixed before Mon go to Diesel Repair Specialists, 26580 Van Born Rd. and ask for Beki.

Super shop and we tend to call it Load 1 North. They take care of everything except tires. Tell Beki I sent you.

Steve, thanks for that. Have already met Beki (and her 2 new pups), they fixed the couple issues I had with truck after I got up here. But they were a no go regarding the heat. They found what they think was a bad switch, but could not locate a replacement.

I'm not sure it's the switch, however, as it's off the original climate control panel that came with sleeper. From what I understand from previous owner, that was all bypassed when APU was installed.

And this past year, have controlled heat/AC from APU panel, not the panel switch came off of. Have never used that one. Not faulting Beki's shop, they did great job for me, and Beki definitely knows her stuff.

Thanks again.

Jim,

I probably have the same sleeper you have. First, did you check the fuse panel in the driver's side compartment? It's covered by a flap of fabric on the rear wall. They are glass fuses and one controls the bunk panel. It's a 30 amp.

If that's not it, go back up to DRS Monday and have them take the switch out of the dead truck I have up there. I'll call Beki and ok it. At least you'll know if it's the switch or not.

Doesn't the APU work?

Wow, thanks for that, Steve. At least can check if it's the switch.
Yes, APU works fine, and I can have plenty of AC :)

Did check the fuses, was 1st thing I looked at, all are good.

If the switch from mine fixes it just leave it in yours. Beki can find me one later.

I assume the APU no longer puts out heat. Did DRS look at it? They work on them too.

Steve, just a update. Another driver took switch out of his truck, I plugged it in, didn't help. So not the switch.

Will go back to Beki's this AM, after talk with Brian regarding the situation with the driver I want on as a co-driver.

Thanks again.

Ok, now have bunk heat again :) Talked to Robert, at Beki's, who
diagnosed the bad switch. Explained about never using that panel, so he took another look. Found he had looked at wrong heater unit. Was just the blower fan stuck.

Regarding taking on that other driver, for reasons not quite clear, the decision was no. So other driver will have to run for that owner (if they get the truck started) for at least a couple weeks. Then we'll see.

So think I'll sleep warm tonight, and finally go in service tomorrow AM.

Thanks again, Steve, and everybody else.

I already said 'welcome!' [in person] when you were in orientation, but it's nice that you're getting to see what makes Load 1 so good already: if you have a problem, you're not alone. And the help [like Steve W] is pretty impressive - if they can't fix it, they know who can.
This is a good place to be.
Well, as long as you can live without the pay screen, lol [but the pay will be there, every time!]. :)
