We read, studied and asked many questions before we started expediting. No amount of preparation is enough, you have to get out and do it.
We are a husband and wife team in a DR truck. Our first week was a whirlwind! We have learned a lot and can see that we will enjoy our choice of work and carrier.
We are in contact with a couple of other teams and they have been very helpful. Not wanting to over stay our welcome with them we thought that the other straights here could provide us with some input. Feel free to PM us or answer here. PM's are great.
We are trying to run our business with a balance of profit and enjoyment. We know how to run businesses and we like to enjoy our work. So far so good.
The main questions revolve around the opportunities that are presented and the acceptance rate. Some opportunities, well many, are not a good business decision to accept. We have run a couple loads that we really didn't want to but felt that we needed to get some experience. We have turned down more then accepted, and no we are not cherry picking! If taken some would have been real bad financial choices. Two loads of our few were somewhat OK but not very good.
Any input will be very much appreciated.
We really like what we are doing and really like FedEx and will be in a long time relationship. We just have to learn their system so we both can do very well.
