New team has questions

We read, studied and asked many questions before we started expediting. No amount of preparation is enough, you have to get out and do it.
We are a husband and wife team in a DR truck. Our first week was a whirlwind! We have learned a lot and can see that we will enjoy our choice of work and carrier.
We are in contact with a couple of other teams and they have been very helpful. Not wanting to over stay our welcome with them we thought that the other straights here could provide us with some input. Feel free to PM us or answer here. PM's are great.

We are trying to run our business with a balance of profit and enjoyment. We know how to run businesses and we like to enjoy our work. So far so good.

The main questions revolve around the opportunities that are presented and the acceptance rate. Some opportunities, well many, are not a good business decision to accept. We have run a couple loads that we really didn't want to but felt that we needed to get some experience. We have turned down more then accepted, and no we are not cherry picking! If taken some would have been real bad financial choices. Two loads of our few were somewhat OK but not very good.
Any input will be very much appreciated.

We really like what we are doing and really like FedEx and will be in a long time relationship. We just have to learn their system so we both can do very well.

Welcome to Expediting. It can be fun, interesting, and profitable.
After 30 years of trucking I started expediting and I really enjoy it. I hope you guys do too.

Are you guys fleet drivers or O/O's.
I'm an O/O that drove for an owner six months while building a new truck.
Once you've done both it's very obvious that some loads are much better for an O/O than a fleet driver.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Expediting! You're taking a very positive step in talking to other drivers. I can't even imagine doing this, if we had not have gotten the help and encouragement from some of the folks here on EO.

We started expediting a little over a year ago with FedEx, and are having a great time. Please feel to contact us if you have questions. We try to give back :)

Welcome to our little FedEx Forum! Keep in mind, with this type of work, it isn't JUST about the money and enjoyment but it is also about where a load will take you. Sometimes it is worth doing a "less than perfect paying load" in order to end up in a good area. As time goes along you will learn where the best areas are for your particular team unit. In the past we would have someone tell us not to take a load to a certain area because they would always get stuck there with no loads. But then when we got to that area we found it was great for us as a team.
