Don't laugh. I WWII vet that I have been hunting with, a life long friend of my dad, just had to take a job as a greeter at a Meijer's store in Lincoln Park, MI. He is 86. Sad.
The actions, or lack of actions, taken, or not taken, by our government over the last several decades have really had a negative impact many people's lives. They should be ashamed. They should be in jail.

Is he taking the job for money or because he wants to stay busy and get out of the house, if it's for money, yes that is sad.
I see alot of older people 70's and 80's at Mc Donalds too
He needs the money. He was tending bar but got laid off from that gig when the place he was at changed catering services.
He and his wife are dealing with health problems. He is a vet but got turned down for VA med care. Many of his problems are due to service in the islands in WWII. They just don't fit the mold of "service related".
I am going to see about helping through the process again, this time with an American Legion rep in his camp. He gets confused easy these days.
For the most part I agree. They do some good wound care at the VA that most local doctors would have no idea how to handle it.
My friends problems are lingering affects from illnesses in the tropics. He had malaria, and lots of "other" jungle maladies. Add that to age and it is a problem.
We ask a LOT of our service members and then, after we use them up, we kinda just toss them to the wind so to speak. It really is not right.

Look Minimum Wage is not a wage to live on and shouldn't be.
IT IS a starting wage.
I think it should be eliminated altogether because it is holding everyone back, especially those at the bottom of the economy.
If you can't get beyond that by trying to better yourself, then don't complain. If you expect to buy a house or raise a family, get a grip on reality and start pooling your resources together with others in your same situation.
I wouldn't make a living off of the wage but I also worked for a lot less in the last 5 years. I also know how to work more than one income and that is what my grandparents did during the depressions they were in. They never starved but they also looked at life with the attitude that a house is not what you have to have to live or a car or what ever.

He got treated in theater and then at his private doctor since. He is just now out of money. Life hit him hard and there is little he can do now at 86;

this is what i am talking about it is bull**** that your buddy has to do that at his age . let alone being in WWll. and even you at 60 . i am 41 with bad back . and most the jobs around my area (50 miles) are 10$ a few are 15$ and even less 15$ + so what are your answers for me . and i applied for all that i can do and qualify for . i quit the military contractor job because i don't do halfass work. but the new supervisor did . the soldier lives depended on what we did . so should i be punished for wanting to do good work . and the ones that don't care get to keep their jobs .
this isn't just about me. i see it all over
a company hires a guy to save them money . gets paid 5 million . he says lay off 100 people will save you 5 million a year . . just the same amount they are paying him a year . and he is still at that company .
so everybody should get a cargo van . to make a living . don't need any body to build the roads or even build the cargo vans . where would everybody get their food then because nobody will be growing it . they will all be driving cargo vans .
do you think people should work 70 hours a week . boy with all the people out of work . i guess so . or even all on welfare that are able to work .
maybe we need to start exterminating human beings . we need to thin them out . got more people then we have jobs for them . (oh that cant be possible.)
oh the robots didn't take jobs . robots made jobs .
but why should any of you care about clcooper . all you care about is you . just like the founding fathers they only cared about themselves . not their children or grandchildren .
WHY is the guy that is making 10$ hour have less rights to have a good living then the guy making over 20$ hour . and he has less rights then the guy that is making 100,000 plus a year . last i knew all 3 need food and shelter . all put their pants on the same way .
so why is one life's more important then the others .
or is that just the way it is . that is just business right . it is all your fault because you werent in the front of the line , born with a sivler spoon, didnt know the right people .or sleep with the right people , etc.. because if not you are just lazy .
