We bought our first truck, used, from Middle Georgia and then a new one from Knoxville. We got decent deals from both of them, but I wasn't impressed with the dealer prep at either place. We spent all day at Middle Georgia getting wiring and lights fixed, and had to stay overnight and half the next day at Knoxville when the bunk heater didn't work and the Pro Heat heater didn't work, either.
Our determining factor was the trucks. We prefered the Sterling over the M-2 since it seems to be a little heavier duty, and we just preferred the height and size of it. Whether you like the Sterling or the M-2 be careful about Mercedes engine. The maintenance costs are horrendous. $75 in filters every time, no one has the centrifuge filter except the dealers. You should buy the star wrench for the oil pan plug and now we discovered we should also carry the 36mm socket to remove the lids of the filter housings! We've heard horror stories about getting the oil pan plug stripped out by using the wrong tool. Last week we stopped at Petro and TA to get a service done and neither night crew had a 36mm socket to remove the tops of the filters! The "real" mechanics only work days and their tools were locked up!! So we now have our own filters, the star wrench, and 36mm socket, and they will knock $10 off the price. What a deal.
We have had really bad experiences with the service dept. at Knoxville. Our only late delivery was because Knoxville took over 8 hrs. to replace an alternator under warranty. We've stopped in various times for minor repairs and they're always too busy to get to it. The last time we darkened their door was to check on a service and were told "Not only no, but F*** no." Lesson learned. If they don't want to accomodate their buyers, I guess they'll not be getting any return business from us. Maybe we'll be buying at Ft. Wayne next time.
