I MIGHT BE LOOKING INITAILLY FOR A RELIEF DRIVING SLOT OUT OF KANSAS CITY-AS A TRAINEE.!!!

Looking for - driver’s slot…part time initailly, straight truck,
van, etc, I have done some professional driving in the past…for Penske, & Don’s Express both part time.…….
I am early out retired from the federal government ---I am presently retired by choice as a software consultant.... I am willing to get the necessary license amendments, upgrades, etc. ---otherwise---clean mvr.-

Formerly had a cdl permit…but never did take the driving part……For the right fit…would consider brushing up on the written and taking the test……--------
Driving-(and I have done it before…seems a good, after retirement fit)…..my preferences are(I think) going from point a. to point b., and returning…same schedule, same route…(dedicated, regional).only light loading and unloading….fork lift, ok…..part time to start(or perm) would be fine…willing to ride for awhile…on my dime..

The above quote of yours is perhaps the only portion of your resume' that pertains to entry level expediting work. Generally speaking, expediting does not provide much dedicated work that would allow you to be home every night, or nearly so. Some expedite carriers have short term dedicated freight customers who need our services to catch up on a production schedule, but this is not the norm.

Being the ambulance-like service of the trucking industry, we are on call for the emergent freight handling requirements of the customers who are willing to pay premium prices for a premium service. We typically operate on a door-to-door, exclusive use, time sensitive basis.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but these are a bit of the realities of expediting. If you haven't done so, check out the EO classifieds for driving opportunities.

I agree with terryandrene. It does not appear that expediting is the kind of business that would meet your expectations. See the article: "Introduction to Expediting."

Excerpt:

Working Hours and Conditions

Unless they place themselves out of service, expediters are on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Expediters almost never go to the same place twice in a row. Some loads take just an hour or two to complete. Others are cross-country runs requiring a few days and nights.

Most of the time, expediters have no idea where the next load will take them. It could be across the street or across the nation. It is not at all unusual to run all night and sleep the next day, and then run the next day and sleep the next night. Sleep management is an ongoing challenge and safety issue in expediting. Before you can sleep, you have to find a safe and legal place to park, which is also an ongoing challenge.
