New Mexico Port of Entry and Prepass

I have taken the liberty of adhering to the flashing green light that luminates from my Prepass transponder whenever we approach the NM port of entry. Is this wrong? I was told recently by a higher-up within my company, that I will do this 'at my own risk', as I am supposed to stop there regardless, of what my Prepass says to do. Well then if this is true, would somebody please tell me why there is a prepass detector at the p.o.e. to begin with? May sound dumb or whatever, but I just want the piece of mind of knowing the gospel here. Thanks

I always follow the Pre-Pass lights, except when I am hauling hazmat. I have yet to have a problem in New Mexico. I am not aware of a law that is different, BUT, I don't know anything for sure.

When the unit passes the transceiver, and the information is passed to the scale house, in all that 8 or 10 seconds on a slow day, all of your information is passed on to them.

There are but 2 states that require you to stop with haz mat,Ohio and Arizona
The sign before the NM port says follow your in cab transponder signal.
Ohio has a sign that says all Haz Mat trucks must enter,I stopped in Arizona and asked, they said you must stop with HazMat.There are a couple of other states that make you enter with permitted loads, but I forget where pre pass told me they were

If you have Pre Pass you can look at each state on the Pre Pass Map and find out if you need to stop or not when you have a green light:

Alabama

Here is what the site says for Ohio:
Bypass Restrictions
Oversize/overweight (even permitted loads)
Unlicensed Hazmat

Here is what the site says for New Mexico:
Bypass Restrictions
Oversize/overweight (even permitted loads)

Here is what the site says for Arizona:
Bypass Restrictions
Oversize/overweight (unless Class E permit)
Placarded Hazmat and Hazwaste loads
Fuel import loads
Livestock loads

From what I read Steve is right on Arizona but not on Ohio.

I called Pre Pass and found out more details on what licensed Hazmat actually entails. If your company has Alliance for Uniform Hazmat Transportation Procedures you do not have to stop at the scale in Ohio.

Check your permits and see if you have this form. If you do not have this form you will need to pull into a lot more scales. *
