New Guy on the Block

Hi. My name is Bill and I'm hoping for some help. I'm an owner operator with a '07 International . Been driving hazmat tankers for over 25 years--and looking at Fed Ex CC as a career change. Just found this site from posting on OOIDA and read some of the posts. You are definitely the people to ask. I'm a hard worker and love to drive--but, can you make money? I'd love to hear the pros and cons before making such a huge decision. Thank You.

Glad you made it over here from the OOIDA Forums.

There are many different programs within FedEx Custom Critical and your recruiter can tell you more about each one. Are you going to drive team is the first question that comes to mind.

We must be able to make money many of us have been here for awhile and are able to purchase trucks so...

My con might be your pro so a more direct question would be easier to answer.

If you do live near where your avatar raised,
then you better look at the BR units before buying a truck.
me thinking you'd probably NET just as same as a solo St. Truck,
and have an easier retirement job.

BTW, i'v been told tanker y'ankers sleeps on water beds... any truth for that ?

Thanks for responding so quickly. I own my own tractor and will be driving solo. I'm currently in the process of sending in my paperwork and the recruiter is setting up dates for me to train in Ohio. I guess my biggest concern is that it's such a change from what I'm used to. The hazmat tanker business has been paying less and less over the last 5 years. I'm looking for steady loads in which a hard worker can do well. Again, thanks for responding and I guess after my training--I'll have more questions. Best of luck to you, Bill

1 thing to keep in mind, while the BIG trucks (ST and TT) run better for the most part the the little stuff, Expedite is based on "hurry up and Wait"....you will sit waiting for loads then you ever have...sometimes days on end....
