New FedEx service

"I mean that I asked a question to many people at FedEx, what changes to my revenue will I expect from this change? I got the same answer from everyone – we don’t know what rate changes that will occur when this takes place."

To be fair, ask 5 people in FedEx the same question and you will get 5 different answers. However, you are asking them to predict the total outcome of this. They didn't just jump into this program. They have done some trial. Now what exactly are you asking. Are you asking if your Rate per Mile will increase/decrease? Or are you asking if your overall Revenue will increase/decrease? Or are you really concerned about how much freight you will be hauling.

I personally believe that FECC is acting in the best interest of their contractors. I often hear truck driver's comment that "dispatch wouldn't have a job without driver's" That is true, however, driver's don't have a job without customers and dispatchers and quite honestly we don't know half of what goes on behind the scenes most of the time.

I believe this new program will provide the opportunity for at least increased overall revenue, but may or may not affect the rate per mile. If it does, I see it going up, not down. Of course we see discounted loads, but we don't have to take them and most of the time your better off if you don't.

I will clarify my comment.

I want to know what their projections of any increase of revenues we should expect. I know that they have this information, both based on historical data, competition information gathering and other things that will give them the data needed to make a decision whether this is a good idea for FedEx CC and ME. My revenue is a big concern whether it is CPM, % of intake or loaded miles – it is my business and I depend on FedEx CC to take good business decisions and feel I should know if something has a negative effect on my bottom line that will allow me to prepare for a lower revenue in the future.

With that said, I don’t believe that their motivation is based on our happiness, but rather to increase the divisional profit and market share. They recognized that contractor retention is a key to these two goals, keep them happy and they work ideals.

The only way we will see a success or failure of this change will not be for 6 or maybe 8 months. The thing is that what I was told is somewhat different than what was posted and published, the failure in my eyes is typical – lack of proper communications.

Oh I have something else to add. I am sitting here at home not to expect to get out for a couple more days – too many vans? Slow freight? Until march, I would only sit for a day and out I would go – is it slow for you?

I hear you greg,I am at home also and don't have any idea when i'll get out of here. Never had any problems before leaving our home express center. Can't wait until there are 400 more trucks to compete with.In my opinion they have too many trucks as it is.

Well just finished an intresting conference call with other FedEx van/D truck operators and everyone is sitting - isn't modern techology wonderful, we can all talk together for free? I find it odd that many say Panther and others are moving, so I assume that there is; an internal shake up, a problem that they did not tell the 600 salespeople what they need to do or there is no freight? take your pick.

Everyone agrees that it is the first purdent thing to do is first get the business than get the trucks - not the other way around.
Ramping up a new project like this, we should expect that they bring up to speed the sale staff what actually we do in order to offer options.

We also all discussed(even the D truck people who are offered B loads) that there are way too many D trucks in the fleet and reduction may be a good thing but I guess the same can be said about vans, except we can't take D loads.

Oh well, I know I soud negitive, I can say - been there, done that with things like this. Back to staring at the wall waiting for a load.

Your contact with regards to Panther is correct. We have been very busy. As they implement your LTL program you should see load volumes pick up. The only question would be at what rate are you running them (LTL frieght)? And, how often?
RichM probably said it best, "they may have put the cart before the horse".

I have noticed many Fedexes sitting for long times in many truckstops. Talked to one last week in texas, had been there for a week. Since so many are sitting, they must be saying no to cheap loads.
