new dispatch system @ the fed

That's right Ken. Our ONLY reason for refusal is low rate. We do not refuse to go ANYWHERE. Many times we've taken loads that were not really good business decisions as far as getting freight back out but if the rate is good then we go and work through those details after dellivery. (now don't blast me for bad business practices!!)
For the same reason I took a load to Meridian, Idaho. the load payed great, but I knew I'd be deadheading back to civilization. Had to dh back to ohio since it was Thanksgiving. No loads coming back.

I don't understand this offer, counter offer and perk thingee...a dipatcher knows the bottom line of a load before the process...in these difficult times...just move the bottom figure to the top line and offer that number....like I said it's not rocket science here.

However, this weekend I get to sit on my butt and get paid layover. I'll make 400$ for a 240 mile load. from Timken in canton to Hamilton, Oh.

It would seem like this should be so but at times when we've counter-offered the dispatcher has had to seek confirmation before offering more money.

Yeah, but there was another snowstorm coming in and more than likely I would have been stuck. not seeing anything for at least a few days. So I headed back. but it was definitely a cool trip. Got some nice pics out of it.

You know this really does not sound all that good when you really think about it. It leaves a gap with too much ambiguity during that acceptance time and actually I don't see the time gap with the load offers when dispatch is selective.

I think Dave eluded to something that I think would force owners to take more loads because they don't want to miss out on load offers in the overall picture.

Ok but just where is the confirmation coming from??? the customer or the customer service rep who booked the load, or a supervisor???

Good question but I've never asked because I don't really care........as long as the money shows up!:D:D

No kidding....show me the money is what we say!!!

But really...it would have to be a supervisor or a CSR...you just can't call a customer back and say HEY you gotta pay more! that would be embarassing and unprofessional. Unless it's an equipment upgrade or something.

So what does a dispatcher do with a load...they look at the written order from the CSR and say thats too cheap I'll never find a unit to run it at that price....and book it on the bid board???

Back to the original topic, the only thing I don't like about it is the cell phone calls. One, that burns more minutes and two, calls won't go through in areas where SMS will. The offer should be by QC and SMS to the operator with the ability to respond either by QC or return SMS. That will give the most connection opportunities.

Judging from some of the ridiculous offers we've turned down lately (fuel IS over $4.00 ya know), I'd say that last comment would be a negative. Maybe the bid board comes as a last resort??

Also, I've never thought for a moment that they would change the rate for the customer, I've always assumed they were ponying up out of their (fed ex) percentage. You know, I want what's mine and part of your's too!!:eek:

This idea sucks, I don't want to lose precious sleep being bugged by load offers I cant run anyway. Its bad enough being woke up by offers that are less than profitable in the first place.

Expedite sucks, unless you are White Glove or whatever the pay isn't better than general frieght and you spend a lot of time away from home parked in truck stops.

Oh well 3.5 years left on my truck note!!!

People complain alot of times by being woken up by dispatch calling them or sending them a message on the qc. I haven't had a cell phone yet that didn't have an off button. I also haven't seen a qc that didn't have a volume button on it. Turn the volume all the way down. Then throw a pillow over top of it. People complain about the qc going off while driving and the beep is annoying. Turn volume down, throw in sleeper, turn volume on radio up, and drive. It won't bother you.

I think that new system will help the company for sure. More driver's will take loads at a sub standard rate because they will be scared if they don't hurry up and accept it will get stolen by another driver. So some won't even look they will just hit the "Y" button.
