I see Freighterliner of Knoxville has a new Sprinter on there web sight. Anyone have first hand known of what the mileage will be? (not what the dealer says) Dealer says up to 15 with the new Mercedes 3.5L V-6.

If the information came from Jon Mosier, it is likely pretty accurate. Very knowledgable on what they sell there.

Jon is a stand up guy. You can rely on him giving you the most accurate information he has available. As time goes on he'll be in touch with folks who get them from him and through them will refine his numbers but he isn't going to tell you anything crazy. He'll either give you the information or tell you he doesn't know.

I have a 2007 144" High Top get a consistant 20.4 MPH. Ok with milaege, but I thought by waiting till the new 07's came out would avoid some of the prev. Sprinter issues, boy how wrong I was, very disappointed in Sprinter.

You knew of course the 07 is a new model as meaning a first run? You shoulda waited till at least 09 before buying....if anything you shoulda bought an 06...most problems gone.

Something to also take note of. When I first looked at the 07 spritner, the 3.5L engine required 91 octane fuel. Well, of course, you cant get 91 octane fuel so you will have to use 93 premium.

I have around 10,000 on my 07 so far ( 3.0 CRD ). Was getting around 20 MPG at first, now starting to get a consistant 22 MPG. I like the new motor much better. The extra torque really makes a difference when loaded. No more shifting every time the wind blows or going up the slightest hill. Also, a TILT STEERING WHEEL !!! Its about time :)

Marty: Sorry for the delay in responding to your request. First off let me give the 07
Sprinter it’s “props†over the 06’s. Size, interior back lighting, a new larger power mirror, tilt, seats, and multi mini-storage compartments, great. My thinking after following the forums for close to 18 months was with DB (Daimler Benz) Dodge going with a new 6cy in 07 as opposed to the 5cy in 06 and prior that some of the reoccurring common engine problems would be eliminated. Silly me for using that logic, the problem that has plagued the Sprinters since the “get-goâ€, the turbo “kicking off†during acceleration started at 16,000 miles for me. The only good news is you just pull over and sht down and restart which clears the code temmporaly. This causes you to loose power when taking off from lights, passing, or entering hi-ways. Dealer has had it 4 times tried fix, tried to blame fuel at first, which is “code†for a mechanic saying he does not know what the problem is. I am now 37 days into waiting for parts which they think will fix it. I waited for the 07 knowing I would take a 20% reduction in fuel mileage hoping that DM Dodge would have perfected the product. Getting to know the tech’s they give the impression the “tech data†especially when it comes to error codes from Germany can be difficult which is somewhat disturbing. I paid close to 37 k and everyday I have to fight driving an inferior vehicle just makes my blood boil. The problem I think is they made the vehicle too complicated with not enough dealers or tech’s who can fix them competently. Let’s not forget the insane amount of money they get for PM too. Mileage, size, and creature comforts A-. Dependability, “fix abilityâ€, preventive maintenance cost, and part cost F- .

I am now at that point of “no win†where you have to get the zone involved, and that puts the dealer’s service department on notice which puts them in adversary mood toward you.

To summarize its like that great looking woman (or man to stay PC) who “cheats†on you, it just “tears you up†to make that type of commitment. (37 k) and get total frustration.

Brownie,

Sorry to hear about your Sprinter problems..!!!

I do appreciate your insights as I've been looking
at an '07 that's "on sale" (2008's are coming)...

Based upon your situation, I'm going to "pass"

Hope all turns out well...

Be Safe

There are a lot of things about the 07 that I like, the tilt steering wheel being tops on the list. :)

I briefly considered trading my 05 in for an 07, and would have gotten a very good deal on the trade in, but what kept nagging at me in the back of my brain was the new engine. New engine means new all sorts of stuff. It took them 4 years of public beta testing to work out the fuel filter, EGR, and other assorted nuisance bugs of the previous engine, then they come along in 07 and put out a completely new engine. Pause...

37 days for parts and four trips for servicing the same problem is a major cause for concern. That kind of stuff in rediculous.
Makes me wonder how the EPA 08's will work? Many places currently have no one to work on them.
As far as vans, I really have to wonder if the Areocell with a standard van chassis would be a better buy? You do give up fuel economy, but I have to wonder? Alot of posts from Dieseldoc on the comparisons.

While the new Sprinters changes are being perfected
the Areocell seems like the way to go...

I'd bet an owner could have a VERY nice Areocell setup
for the almost $40k a '07 or '08 Sprinter will cost ...

How long is the wait for an Areocell to be mounted
on a van chassis...???

KEEP SMILING ... :+ :+

Alot of places already have them on the ground. Way below the $40's as well.

Keep in mind that a 6.0L GM cutaway comes with a 4.10 rear end.

You have to get the Duramax Diesel to get a 3.73 rear end in a cutaway.

Our Fleet Mgr for a local dealership brings up that issue at every GM meeting. They have yet to yield on that issue.

First thing I checked into, Illinois 12 mos. or 12,000 miles. My mileage was 17,500 at the time. I waited 39 days for parts called the dealer again, and finally the parts came in. Now of course it acted up anywhere from 0 to 25 times a day prior to parts coming in, as of the last 7 days in runs perfect. I am trying to decide if I should have the parts put in, major disassemble of engine needed to install parts. The cure might be be more harmful then the problem?
