It seems its getting harder to find these places. Several leads I had like certain TA's no longer do them. If anybody knows of locations within the normal expediting lanes (midwest, northeast, etc.), please post them. Ill be in KC this coming Monday. THANKS!!!

We have always just gotten it done at a truck stop. Had to show them our old one so they knew what to look at but never was an issue.

For the past several years, Ive gotten mine at the T/A in Jeffersonville, OH....I71 exit 65.... they've done it night or day, long as they're not real busy.

your carrier doesn't have a shop that does them???
May be a carrier that requires a periodic inspection and if you can't get it done by their "road patrol" may require you to get one on the road, or can't get back to the shop in time before their DOT expires

Here in Illinois, certain repair shops do it. The locations are in the phone book if you're from around here, or you can probably look it up on Google if need be.

Illinois isn't as strict as they once used to be. Right now, anything "B" plate and lower can probably take a pass on the safety lane, above "B" plate and you have to go through the safety lanes once every 6 months. It used to be, a couple of decades back, that all trucks regardless of size had to go through the lanes. They were notoriously corrupt, and you could count on your headlights getting re-aimed whether you needed it or not as a minimum. Then, once clear of the lanes you'd have to re-aim your lights since they were now useless for actually illuminating the road. Yes, it was that bad.

I have a buddy that works at the Roseville Ryder Transportation repair center. He offered to do mine (I don't need one) so I am sure they do them there.

Roseville MN is a northern suburb of Minneapolis.

Landstar has a network of inspection sites, and they provide the form for the van also.

Most Ta/Petro shops can do them ....

I go to the T/A although some of them won't do vans. I am about to renew my state inspection which should be accepted on a van for one of the required inspections. There is no reason not to do so and refusing to accept a perfectly valid inspection should mandate the carrier paying for the unnecessary inspection they demand. Another WART.

I have my regular mechanic at home do it. They are very thorough. I'm at least as interested in finding out about problems and potential problems and getting them fixed, as I am about simply passing the inspection.

As for a State Inspection, as long as they properly fill out the DOT form, shouldn't be a problem. Then again, there's no tellin' with some of these carriers.

I'm not a fan of the quickie t/a(lodi, Oh) inspections, back in 2008 I paid 79.00 for an inspection as my regular guy was swamped, anyways, they passed me and approved the truck, missing the cracked brake pad on my front left wheel, less than a week later, I got a ticket and out of service citation at the weigh station i-70 east at indiana line, had to have a repair service come out and fix it then and there, cost me way more than if they had caught it and fixed it then. T/A however did kindly refund my money, but not the ticket, or extra charges for road service people. I will never use T/A again for inspections, just my own mechanic. Other problem I had with same t/a was mechanic while fixing a minor problem, stood on my p/s tank, cracking it off the mount, they kindly replaced it the next day for me, free of charge, after waiting 14 hrs for parts, sitting there costs money.

How many days did you go without ever opening your hood to do your PTI? That is something you should've caught in any of the PTI you did, not sure why you feel others are responsible for what you missed. There is also the chance that it happened after the inspection. I have been very happy with their inspections and they usually do a through job as the more the mechanic finds wrong the more commission he makes.

Landstar contractors do not pay for the inspection, and they have a list of inspectors certified to do their inspections. That is the biggest rub ... often there is no Landstar certified inspector available.

Were talking about hairline cracks in the top shoe, how many times do you get down there and look insides with a flashlight? Like an over eager to write a ticket dot inspector on brake inpection week! This year I'm taking blitz week off and going fishing

I'm not making any claims of going over my truck with a microscope but the fact is that it is our responsibility. The real issue is that we have failed in our responsibility as Americans to fight against this garbage that we let the DOT and FMCSA pull. If you want to be upset with someone let it be the government not some mechanic that may or may not of missed the issue.

We do DOT inspections on Expedite trucks, vans, Sprinters, and tractors at our shop in Medina, Ohio.
We check over everything to make sure the unit is safe and in good working order. We also do small repairs and Oil changes even if you bring your own oil and filters. You can go to www.mayfieldexpress.com if you ever need a DOT inspection or a pm service as we know how it is to pay a lot for things on the road.
