Neccessary technology

We use copilot and I was also in the baltimore area yesterday and was really frustrated. There was a funeral procession for a fireman on I95 they had everyone at about 5 miles an hour. Copilot has a detour button but alot of the roads had weight restrictions so it really didn't help. I have also noticed that sometimes it will tell me to turn left but then it shows on the map to go right. I do like it better than streets and trips though it has never taken us down a low clearance road. And most of the roads it uses is truck friendly. I have also noticed that the city it says you are in is not always the right city, that city might be 14 miles up the road. I am going to call tech support today to see if I can get some answers or if there are any updates to download. The one thing I do like though is if you miss your turn it reroutes you. If I could pick again I think I would go with the garmin next time around.

I bought a Garmin C330 nearly 2 years ago for over twice the price that it is now. I love my Garmin and have no interest in buying anything else. But the Garmin is not the only thing we use to route ourselves. I use the atlas, dispatch's directions, the Garmin, and streets and trips to figure out our route, then i memorize it. I will probably purchase the C550, so I can get the traffic receiver, which would really come in handy. We have tried straining to view the computer while driving and it proves to be a challenge. I think it is unsafe to strain to view your route, while driving. The large screen ended up being too bright at night and a distraction. I love the fact that the Garmin is directly in front of me and i can clearly see the small screen. The Garmin is not always correct, that is why i use everything that is available to me.

We have 309563 miles on our Lowrance IWay 500 and now "Lori" is part of our dash and a gauge we scan at all times. We also use every source available to us to double check the directions. We compare our directions to the QualComm and also to Streets and Maps. We track our loads with Streets and Maps and while I am locating our pickups and deliveries I also get an over view of the streets and our turns.

Each item the QualComm directions, the GPS, Streets and Maps and the Map Index has failed us at one time or another and you have to go back to the driver being able to think and figure out the situation.

I completely agree. A lot of the time, the address doesn't exist, then i have to use the internet to locate the customer.

I used to have to find residential locations in new subs, the sales idiots never wrote down the directions to find the place so I got into the habit to ask questions when I would speak to whom ever on the phone - like the nearest cross streets, any landmarks and what the building looks like.
