In our field of expedited freight there is whats know as the dreaded NAKED ENGINE! Yep, thats right, siting there in all its glory with not a stitch on in.LOL
Normally they are wrapped in a shipping bag that we tarp over. The shipping bag not only protects the engine, it also helps protect our expensive custom made aviation tarps. Let me note here that the bags are not designed to travel mile after mile at highway speeds. So we are required to tarp over them.
The only choices one has when an engine is naked is to sacrifice your $200-$400 custom tarp that will surely be shredded by the end of the trip. Or try as we do to completely pad wrap the engine first and then tarp over it. Thank goodness we kept our moving pads from our FECC White Glove days as they've come in handy! Thankfully our tarp made it from Batimore to the receiver in fine shape.
Below are pics after we loaded in Baltimore and after we stripped the engine at the receiver. You can see all of the tarp eating prickly parts on the engine and get a reference of the size of the engine. I stand 5'-10" tall. The rear fan cowl and tail piece of the engine are not attached. If so the engine would be approximately 23feet long.
