My pet peeve is companies that put up small signs,or no street numpers.

This morning I delivered to this Co. The only indication of the plants idenity was inbedded in this sign.

What a way to expedite freight...Running up and down the road trying to locate these thoughtless people.

I agree. They should be billed an extra fee for "address development".

Another issue along these lines - is "turn left at the gray building" - that is great at 10:30 am - but doesn't work at 1:45 am.

The best is when you call them for directions and they say "take a left on Main, right on Toad St, etc" But they seem to forget that Main st is co rd 12 and that is all there is for a sign. They seem to forget were not local and don't know the knicknames for streets.

>Yeah, those inconsiderate swine!!!t Oh well, that's why we
>get the big bucks...............

That's why I like having my CoPilot GPS......"1.2 miles to 658 Toad St. on the right"

I loved my gps too up until it routes you down Canadian farm roads... Long story short I cut 3 hours off my trip at the cost of 8" of mud on my truck.

Wouldn't it be great if carriers included the following provision: "Ontime pickup and delivery subject to accurate information" In other words, if the name on the building is not what's on the paperwork, the address is not displayed on the building, and no one answers at the phone number provided, the driver isn't blamed for a late delivery.
Sometimes it feels like everyone except the driver is excused from being accurate...

If it were up to me every building in the nation would be required to have numbers 12" high and all businesses would also be required to light them.

I did an identical thing in Canada and later realized that my Garmin 340 has a provision to not consider dirt roads.

How 'bout the companies that put up a nice sign in the front yard and then proceed to plant shrubs and flowers in front of the sign. In about two years the shrubs are taller than the sign.

Or how about the opposite... You see the building but the only road you can find and that was given says NO TRUCKS ALLOWED and displays a weightlimit you are over x(

Or the direction that they give you on the QC that take you to a road but find out they are talking about the other Main St thats 2 miles down the road.

OR the biggest kicker i've found that had me lost for a while QC says you looking for a Company and here to find out they call themselves something totally different....

Time for me to get a GPS.....

Our favorite was the one that said, "Turn right just past the building that USED to be where the library was located."

We also discovered that our Co-pilot GPS program doesn't update changes in Canada and we drove round and round. Maybe it is more difficult to update the Canadian road changes for some reason. Who knows? But we finally made it back to the USA!

The concept of the street address was invented in Venice, Italy.

OK, so it's not really germane to the conversation, but it is a bit of fascinating worthless trivia.

O.K. You've found the building. Next step, where is the shipping/receiveing entrance? Some places have it very well marked. So, why can't everyone do it that way?

Oh how bout the places that have 10 offices in one city, QC gave you the one on way south side of town, get there and its "Oh thats picking up from our north office, 25 miles north of here" Then you get there, and its "Oh this is at our West office, south office is always sending you here but they should of told you west" Eventually you find it then have the load cancel.

Wow it is bad when I can relate to all of the stories.
On our last load there was no address on the building and no name anwhere.I turned in cause the guy standing outside in the parking lot waving his arms. We commented to him about the lack of signage and he said yeah i get tired of having drivers call saying they cant find it but the big guys still have yet to care enough i guess haha.
On one of my last loads the one from Laredo to NC the PU was on what looked like according to my streets and trips program to be a deadend street and the road was closed about 500 feet before the PU didnt look like a way to get around.
But those darn directions that they sent over were right for once and we followed them to a T and went on invisible road after another into the airport and low and behold we made it there. OH yeah all those roads did say no trucks though lol
Then at the consignee. We knew that there was a truckstop on the road we were looking for so again like dummies we ignored the locals cause heaven forbid the locals would be correct for both in the same load.
Apparently the geniouses in that area just really love that particular road name. So we were technically in the wrong city by like 2 miles.
Went back and took the exit directions said and what do you know. Found it. ANd made it to both places a lil early.

Similar thing everywhere. Had a new delivery customer that were in the back building (of three). No signage at the road or any other indication of their existance.
In Buenos Aries and I think Montevideo they have mandated building numbers to a white sign with black numerals and must be to the left of the front door visible from the road (I think that's right).
Sure would be nice for something similar here.

I share your aggravation. I do agree with Leo that all businesses and even private residences whould have to display their street address just the way many municipalities require the 911 adddress to be displayed.

These posts bring to mind the time we drove up and down a road looking for a "brass glove in front of the blue building" turned out to be a copper globe in front of a white building that used to be blue and the copper had turned green. The whole time the workers were standing in the lot watching us while taking a smoke break. They didn't care if we figured it out or not. It just meant more time to smoke to them. One more cigarette one less day to live, would that be self revenge?
