Good! I hope to see a lot of CV's/sprinters on a repo lot as well......need to thin the herd....

This is going to be a loooong year...I don't see any light on the horizon for 2011.....many will fall by the wayside...

Good??? Wow, you're happy that people are losing their vehicles & want it to happen to more?

Wouldn't it be better if there was a better economy & more people had freight (and work in general) than more people losing their trucks/vans?

Also, I thought the Load 1 guys & gals were doing well. Seeing ya say it's going to be a lonnnng year kind of suprised me.

It seems pretty selfish to me that someone from another country wants American jobs to fail while he's taken one.

ABSOLUTELY..it would be......BUT reality check...the expedite market is swamped with trucks and little business....
do you think Walmart cries when they put some mom and pop operation out of business?

It is cold hearted in a way...but that is life....everyone one of you are my competition....the less of you, the more for me...

Sorry...but fact is fact....

I haven't a clue as to what other Load 1's are doing...they are managing to make their set budgets, but most are seasoned vets and have paid off their vans and have a saved bankroll for these tough times....we have few if any rookies over here...

Well I am just glad I have a rental income also that helps me out when freight is slow. What irks me is when you get the guys in the old penske trucks hauling straight loads at .90cpm and running the trucks at over 10k with no logs and no signs and taking a chance of endangering the public with heavy over loaded small cubes. I saw a old penske 16' gmc van unload 6k other day in omaha i was in shock the truck was crawling tail dragging very low to road. I wouldn't wanna be one of them when they get caught by DOT.

Looks to me there's not one that would be worth the time to check into ether high miles or to small of pay load to make it in todays market

There is no place to hide...it is effecting every carrier in one way or another.....

I don't wish misfortune on anyone directly....I hope everyone has their ducks lined up to survive...

I am looking around at newer straight trucks but when I get a newer truck I want a reefer, liftgate, 24'/ 26' box and a tag axle and a gvw of 45k to 48k and no benz or volvo engines. That is why I am running across so many crazy sites LOL.

I am sure while shopping I will run across more crazy sites with trucks.

I'm gonna disagree here. One person can only take so much freight. If you were the only driver in the country, you couldn't handle all the work. For that matter, if there was only 1 company, whether it be Load 1, Fed Ex, whoever, they couldn't handle all the freight.

What I'm getting at is it would be better if there was more freight rather than people losing their trucks.

Your competition can be helpful too. I have another business here. I have friends help me out on big jobs, refer jobs, help w/ advice when there's a challenge, etc. I also help out when they're in a pinch.

Unless you've learned everything on your own in this industry, I'm guessing people from this board & maybe the road have helped you out somewhere along the line. What if it was one of them who went under?

I realize there's other criteria for who gets a job. In Canada if I'm not mistaken they won't hire anyone for a job that a Canadian can fill. You can correct me on that if I'm wrong. What if we had that same line of thinking here? You wouldn't be able to be hired by an American company.

I realize Load 1 is happy w/ your work. That's not the point. The point is they'd have never been able to hire you in the first place except to do Canada to US & back runs.

That's a different point. And a valid one. That's more about people cheating & taking runs from people who've went & played by the rules.

The thing is, it's often those who played by the rules who got burned. I saw some of those trucks. They didn't look like junk. A lot of em looked like pretty solid vehicles. I saw the logos on them. I figure they went through the right process to sign on.

I just hate the idea that people w/ good intentions trying to make a living are having it so tough.

Danny...absolutely we can disagree...but I think we actually agree more then disagree....

As to the part in bold.....that would be ideal...but reality is hoping for more freight and wishing for it, won't make it appear. There are too many trucks then there is freight...sooo something has to give....
The ideal thing would be for all the marginal players (those with 2nd incomes) to just park their units so the people who do this as a primary income could survive....as for me taking all this time off actually in a very small way helps my team mates.....one less to compete with....

Well of course it would, but that's not the reality. The reality is we have to deal with the situation at hand. The reality is there isn't more freight, and there are too many trucks for what freight we do have. The reality is that people got into this business without knowing the reality.

Unless you've learned everything on your own in this industry, I'm guessing people from this board & maybe the road have helped you out somewhere along the line. What if it was one of them who went under?
This industry will not keep people around for sentimental reasons. It's supply and demand, capacity and availability. It's not like these independent contractors are UAW members or anything, where you can keep them around and on the payroll because they're nice people, or that you can tell shippers to ship stuff because it's the American thing to do. This isn't an ad campaign to try and get people to by expensive and inferior Detroit cars just so people in Detroit can keep their jobs.

If we did that, 20 million Mexicans would be out of a job. <snort>

I've been trying to come up with a sensitive way to say that half of the CVs on the road have to go home and park 'em. I don't care who they are; y'all can work that out among yourselves.

Bitter because I'm not happy people are losing thier trucks? I didn't realize a counterpoint made someone a union member. As you see fit though.

I had a pretty decent day today. I'm not wishing anyone hardship. Not all days are great mind ya, but on those that aren't I'm not hoping my competition goes under.

I'd already considered the Mexican aspect. I figured that would be getting off topic. Ya could add in Canadians & people who work in high tech fields from Asia & all sorts of nationalities though. While I have mixed emotions on the Mexicans, I don't think the rest should be sent home.

I get that there's a lack of freight. That's not a revelation. It's also pretty clear that people will get out of this business rather than freight levels picking up. I'd rather just see people succeed than go belly up. Maybe that's pure fantasy, but that's how I feel.
