My intent was never to upset the board

It is quite understandable that this site has a specific set of rules that have been put in place in order to govern the posters and the content that they are allowed to post in the open forums. If we were all allowed to go on a "free for all assault" on one another, nothing productive would come out of our (one-sided-long-winded-emotionally-charged-diatribe). This forum would simply be like the wild wild west and people would have "word" draw downs at high noon in the middle of the e-street right across from the "wild west cowboy expediter" watering hole. But these rules serve a purpose. They promote "healthy" discussion so that we can brainstorm and help one another work through the various problems that we all encounter on a daily basis. Also, doug, you are not going to win a fight against the moderators! It simply isn't going to happen! Let me give you some advice since I used to get ignored and banned from every chatroom, political blog, advice thread, and just about anywhere I could verbally assault people online. You caused an uproar in the room and made yourself look a little bit combative (but it's not the end of the world) as people in these forums have "a short term memory!" I "myself" am now a regular chatter in at least three rooms where I used to be a pariah. The people that I once offended have grown to accept and even appreciate my presence in the room now. So, you can turn this around very easily. "All you have to do is just be the guy that you used to be before this whole melodrama unfolded a few days agao and people will once again embrace you and your opinions. The same will happen for the young lady who has been banned for 90 days. It's just a break and it gives her some time to sit back and reflect on things so that she can come back as a new person. I think you have some really good opinions in the room an i'm pretty sure a lot of other people would agree that you are an asset to the room. You just have to let this one go. Trust me, i've been the forum bully before, and you aren't going to win against those who can (literally ban your ip address from accessing this site)!

I wasn't going to reply to this, since I thought I made my position clear in the previous thread this was hashed out in.

However, thank you all for your responses, and your understanding.

Doug,

The bottom line is, no.. the rules are not negotiable, or oepn to debate. It's taken over 9 years of whittling and fine tuning to get them where they are, and none of them have been instituted, or enforced, lightly. We have watched other sites come and go, and we're still here.

We have tried to allow reasonable freedom, while still maintaining some decorum. It has not been easy, and many people have come and gone.

In the long term tho, some people who left for greener pastures, have come back and become some of our best posters.

Are we perfect, no way... but we're still here, and in my opinion, the best.

As for the personal matters.

We do not discuss someone's banning with other members. Period.

You stated that in your opinion, a moderator made an inapropriate post. Fine, perhaps, as someone suggested, you might have mentioned that to Lawrence or myself instead of trying for a public flogging of said Moderator. Lawrence or I would have reviewed it, and made a decision... either way, it would not have been discussed on open forum.

We don't discuss disciplinary action on the forum.

Doug, you are welcome here. You have made several helpful and informative posts.

You really need to let this one go. You've heard from new and old members who 'get it'.

This is a privately owned site, and it has rules. The moderators and I are here to enforce those rules. Again, they may not be perfect, but they work... and the site continues to grow and inform, and people keep contributing.

I dare say, if we were such a horrible place, we would not have such dedicated members.

Thanks everyone, we'll keep trying to make this the best Expediting site around!

Of course, if Doug (or anyone else for that matter) had done as you as suggested, and mentioned it to either you or Lawrence, I suppose that maybe, just maybe, the polite and civil thing to do might have been to at least acknowledge that you received/read his communication (as opposed to say ..... just ignoring it ?) ......... even if you did not care to specifically respond to the specific concerns that he raised.

Maybe just a matter of common courtesy .....

RL,
I would absolutely respond and acknowledge the receipt of the complaint. It's just the final decision as to the punishment would be private.

If indeed I have ever not responded to anyone's PM on such matters, I assure you it was unintentional, and more than likely due to the volume of email I receive daily.

Thanks,

Dale
