My apologies to A. Blair

I'm so so sorry. I mistated some facts and I need to correct them. I have explained to Steve at A. Blair that I'm riddled with A.D.D. (just like Glenn Beck) and panic when I sit for more than 20 hours.

Steve has just proven to me that in the 9.5 weeks I've driven for them, I've averaged 2565 miles per week!!!!! That's not too shabby!!!! That's solo T/T. I get paid by the mile the same rate no matter what the load pays. No expenses except my food, WiFi and cell phone.

In my warped mind, I don't see that because, as I explained, I have a hard time sitting.

So, I'm sorry. I'll stop complaining.

It was'nt my place to say. I knew you had been doing overly well with them. I know its hard to sit, but your in Laredo after the Holidays, its always slow to start down there.

Its all in averages and I to must remind myself of that. This time of year the closer to the first of the month the better. I take off (if possible) the first or second week in the month, than hope for the best. With ups an downs I usually do quite well. So will you, learn to be patient and enjoy life a little more while sitting.

Easier said than done but when you look back you will wish you had not worried about NOTHING......

I have a load that I'm heading to McAllen to pick up. It picks up tonight but can deliver in Wayne, MI anytime as long as it is there by noon on the 19th.

I can store it in the back of my trailer and put on more loads from down here and earn a week's pay over the weekend since there is no rush, at this time, to leave south Texas.

Thanks, Broom. Sometimes I think I waste my life worrying about when I will get called for my next load. I'm so anxious for that call that I waste all that free time instead of putting it to good use.

chetjester,

You are not the only driver to have a hard time with the sitting that expediting involves. A number of foks get into expediting only to get right back out again because they had a hard time sitting.

You are working through that challange and talking about here. I believe you are helping more drivers than you know by doing so.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Chet. Even after 8 years in the business I still haven't gotten used to the waiting. It seems to be hard to remember the good things that happen when your sitting.

Boy is that a true statement! We've been fighting that recently. Just before Christmas, we sat for 4 days in Oregon with no luck on the load boards, before we finally bit the bullet and headed for home. All 3 sons were coming in for Christmas (first time in years) so we weren't about to miss that.
We came back out Jan 2, hauled 1 load, sat, dryrun, dryrun, sat, and I was about to go nuts. LOL It's picked up again, but it's really hard when you're sitting there thinking of all the things you could get done at home and thinking "what a waste of time" this is.
We like what we do, and make decent money doing it, we just have to keep reminding ourselves of that sometimes. :)

If exclusive use is needed, then it is. If the customers needs can be met without exclusive use, then why not make a few more bucks?

I agree.
There are numerous expedite loads that don't require them to be exclusive.

I like it when we can book more than one load on the truck.

If your toting more than one load for different customers, you're no longer expediting, you're LTLing; semantics perhaps, but there's a difference.

Semantics. Such a big word.

I never tell people I'm an LTLer. I'm an expediter. All the loads on my truck get the same dock to dock always on time service.

But I understand what you mean. I think that may be the new direction a lot of this freight is going. Why else would UPS have bought Overnight and FedEx bought Watkins? The competition is becoming cutthroat as happens in all open markets. Only the strong survive.

I agree with nightcreacher about exclusive use is edpediting.
My understanding is Panther doesn't allow multiple loads unless they are dispatched as stop offs. I am certain I was told that by Panther.
Anyway, I have never had a load I could rest on with the exception of two 1000 plus mile loads picked up on Friday and delivered on Monday. I am talking as a solo driver.

"Expedite freight" and "Exclusive use" are two completely different things.

Roadway, UPS, Fedex Ground, CCX, Haulin Assets, Forward Air, etc. etc. etc. the list goes on forever - are a testament to that fact. Every one of them hauls "expedite freight" along with non expedite freight - otherwise known as LTL.

Perhaps a more accurate definition of "expedite freight" might be "critical freight"...........but if there's room AND time for more......guess what!

Some of our customers demand exclusive use, and they willingly pay accordingly. Other customers do not have that requirement - yet they demand their freight be on time - then again, some customers depend on having additional freight on board - it all depends.

Anyway, T/Ts are fun to load!

Steve, you wrote,

"Perhaps a more accurate definition of "expedite freight" might be "critical freight"...........but if there's room AND time for more......guess what!"

The term expedite in itself defines "To expedite freight." To expedite means to deliver promptly. So if you have time to pick up more freight and drop off more freight, you are not expediting you are just hauling freight.
It doesn't matter what you call it, you are not expediting, if you have time to pick up more freight. The exception is when stop offs are sceduled with the original expediting order....mostly for UPS.

There is a difference in the freight categorys you all type about. The misunderstanding, I feel, is caused by many of our "experts" here are still in the box with the figgur'in process. Or, have been convinced they are really in fact elite. And, what they do is elite. Hell we do what you all do and then some. Steve, aino sense in trying to get thru. YOU CAN'T. Save your typ'in skin for something else.
