MVR question from a newbie

Seasoned Expediter
First, let me say what a great source of information this site is. I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to share their experience and knowledge with us "rookies".

I just received my class B CDL in Georgia last Saturday. I'm 44 years old and have been self employed as a concrete contractor for the past 15 years. My longtime girlfriend has had a class A CDL for over 7 years and drives a 24' straight truck OTR for an expediter, and my goal is to team with her. I went to the DMV yesterday and got a copy of my MVR and I have three speeding tickets in the past 3 years for a total of 8 points, and nothing else. I plan to take a defensive driving course this weekend that will remove 7 of those points. Will anyone (expediters) hire us as an OTR team with my MVR? If so could you point us in the right direction? If not any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. I've driven single axle (non CDL) dump trucks for over 10 years pulling equipment without incident or citation.

I'm a Navy vet and could really use any advice anyone may have. My e-mail is [email protected].

Shellback;

Carriers and their underwriting insurance companies will set hiring guidelines, which vary from company to company. Most will look at "violation frequency" meaning how many moving violations you have in a specified period of time - say three years. They will also look at major CDL violations, such as a speed 15 mph or greater, as a disqualifying offense.

Obtain info and an application from any carrier that you may be interested in. The info packet will most likely spell out the hiring citeria.
