The message of socialism they’re trying to spread is appealing to the poor and others who lack essential services. And, for what it’s worth, socialism works well.... in the Star Trek universe

; that’s because there is no scarcity of resources. Three hundred years of scientific progress has allowed everything humans need, to be replicated. They’re free from having to survive, so they strive to better themselves.

Meanwhile, here in the real world of the early 21st century, we still have scarce resources, and competition to acquire these resources. Socialists would have us believe that we can all share them equally, sitting around the campfire and singing “Kum ba Yah”. The reality of socialism as has been applied in the last hundred years, though, proves this belief to be a horrible lie. Stalin, Mao, et cetera tried to make socialism work by killing millions of their own people. Venezuela could be headed down the same road, even though they so far haven’t resorted to genocide.

If only these young American socialists could, or would see the truth of what socialism has become in the 20th and 21st centuries
